Since MOT picked up a few issues not serious but needed doing. Didn't realise I need after a new pair of rollocks as the front brake pipes needed replacing and my driveshaft seals cv boots replacing. Certainly a few days works. feel neutered.
 
Spent a happy day under the FL replacing the front drivers inner CV boot. Avoided a potential wrestling match by leaving the steering knuckle attached to the drive shaft. Job done:)

Nodge, you are correct...the rear brakes, although out of balance did not affect normal braking and I also did a few 'hard braking' tests on the quiet roads where I live (on the way to the test centre). Think rear brakes have been tested for imbalance since 2013 although I may be wrong. These 'dangerous' failures were noted on the MOT failure certificate as listed (and verbatim) and I suspect are part of a 'ramping up' of 'standards' in an attempt to reduce the amount of vehicles on the roads....bearing in mind that we have had MOT testing for more than several decades. Ironically cars that are older do not require MOT's.....Ask any MOT testing expert and they will no doubt tow the UK government party line...
 
Finished painting the plastic trim and fitted some front light guards just needs a polish to get rid of the light overspray dust,fit the lift kit and rear mud flaps.

Ironically cars that are older do not require MOT's

It is a strange bit of legislation that. For instance, my 72 Avenger GT has been off the road in my garage since 1991. It's currently in no state to pass an MOT, but ironically I could now legally drive it on a public highway needing nothing more than the insurance. It's now tax and MOT exempt, which would make it very cheap to own as an everyday form of transport, even though it's far from passing a true MOT test. :confused:

I thought you had to MOT first, then apply for an on going MOT exemption which would then continue ?.

they come apart at the seam ( grrrrrr )

I saw a suggestion on here about using a VW coolant tank/bottle, I think they're cheaper too!. When mine goes again that's the path I'll go down and I'll use the old cracked bottle to make the cradle to hold the new VW bottle. Those caps come in a variety of pressures too so you could go to a 115Kpa cap?
 
Today I took the pooch in the Freelander to the park for a walk. Of course the first thing he did when he got out was take a poop. When I bent over to pick it up my phone fell out of my pocket and landed right in the pile of poop.
That was the highlight of our walk.
Just had to tell someone.

Look on the bright side - the poop probably gave the phone a soft landing, otherwise it might have broke.

Possibly. The car is still a long way off road legal, so I've not looked at the exact rules yet.

As far as I can see there is no need for an 'initial' MOT test but you must apply for the tax exemption and reapply each year for that. Only if the car has had substantial modifications does the car need to be tested (as far as I understand) reading the gov.uk website gives much information and obviously leaves loads out so, although you may find an answer to any question you usually leave the site with more, unanswered questions.....maybe thats their way of staying out of court when issues arise, leaving it to the police and CPS freedom of action and to 'sort out'.. ....There is a section that allows you to contact an 'expert' from the vintage vehicles association or whatever it's called (t)here in the UK....if you are looking for specific advice....
 
cleaned rust from sump. and painted after reading thread about a leaking one.
also cleaned and rust treated and painted front sub frame. couldn`t believe how rusty it was.
 
I hope you have a waterproof phone that can be washed off thoroughly.
I've dropped mine in a puddle next to the dogs poop, but thankfully not in poop.

It did have a case so a spray with an ammonia cleaner and blowing off with compressed air did the trick. The worst part was getting the offending matter out of the little speaker port on the bottom. :( My wife was laughing so hard she almost wet herself as I had done the noble..."I'll pick that up" Learned my lesson there!
 
Got half a lift kit fitted track rod ends and drop links no problems at all didn’t even have to use a splitter but the ones holding the knuckle on what a pair of c&nts so I have a half lifted Freelander good job I don’t need to use it.
 
Passed its mot two days ago, but not happy with a rumbling noise underneath, so took off the vcu shaft. One bearing was iffy and the other was buggered, nice and quiet again in 2 WD. Will order new bearings tomorrow and replace.
