At last, had my alloy plate mod'd and fitted to the under shield frame, then fitted it to the FL.
Only 4 bolts to remove for any servicing.


 
Went for a drive with my one of my son's today. We went up to Carrick town. The pic is on the road beyond Carrick town looking back toward Lake Dustan and Cromwell.
 
oil, oil filter, crankcase breather filter, air filter, pollen filter change today....was going to change the fuel filter but picked the wrong kit from Rimmers so if anyone needs a WJN00080R fuel filter (looks like a in-line filter) let me know .....

Fitted new front anti-roll bar bushes. Dunno what all the fuss is about, there's loads of access space to the 4 bolts. Still a slight knock so on to tie-rods now as that the only parts I haven't replaced...

Then did an annual oil service, pollen filter, air filter and took a look at the PCV/crank case breather valve also. The PCV valve was filthy! Thick with grungy oil. Tried to clean it with white spirits but it was a lost cause so I removed the felt like filter wrapped around the tube and made up a new filter with the sleeve from the old air filter as a temp fix. Idles as smooth as butter now.

Oh and fitted a new black roof box ready for next weeks Iberian road trip.
 
Connected my engine monitoring gauges in to Td4 ;)

Cleaned the maf sensor on my silver td4 and now it pulls again. Hopefully this improves the mpg as they have dropped off dramatically in the last few months.
 
Looked under the bonnet

engine.jpg Displaying ignorance here .....is this the water temperature sensor here just behind the dipstick?

Apologies its the air temp sensor - anybody have any idea why its covered in oil?

Because this is a compressed air pipe from IC to engine. It contains some oil vapour from turbocharger. If inside is a lot of oil (more than film on walls) inspect your turbo and renew breather filter.
 
Well nothing to the FL save drive it but up loaded some video clips to youtube. search HTR or Freelander 1 with Duffers saddle or Carrick, or Hawkesburn.

Dropped it off for its MOT. Have a feeling it'll need drop links or bushes as a front end suspension knock materialised last week - love it when that happens...

The poly bushes transmit a surprising lack of noise... I was quite surprised. The only difference I've noticed in the cab is that the steering wheel vibrates slightly at idle. Other than that, whole car feels much more positive in take off and overrun.
 
And she passed her MOT. Couple of advisories for handbrake and track rod ends. Going back in in a couple of weeks for those.

I found the centre plate at the local scrap yard. Mod'd the original under tray frame and had bits added to either side to make it wider. Alloy welding is expensive!
 
Ive replaced the expansion and cap today. and bled the coolant system again.. as it had cracks around the neck, and it was Hissing like mad after a long trip... ran it up abit.. fans kicked in earlier than before which i take it a good sign..need peaked up alittle but soon dropped as the the thermo opened up...

At what point is any coolant suppose to return back into the tank..if any ??
