Errr different tyre front and rear???????

Of course I know what i've done. Don't panic!!!! The rear have a larger circumference to the front so no fear of damage to VCU + IRD. I've always put new to the back and changed in pairs.

You're very brave. The earlier Freelanders had an IRD ratio that had a slight reduction in drive to the rear, so slightly larger tyres at the back could equal that out. Although the newer tyres on the back principle still applies to later Freelanders (think the change was in about 2000), the tolerances were reduced.

Do you know the diameter's of the Latitude and Scorpions - they may both be 225/55/17 but may have quite different rolling diameter.

This guy bought 4 Goodyear Efficientgrips that were supposedly 'the same' but different enough to cause problems on the Freelander. Admittedly, his problems were immediately detectable...

changed the auto transmission oil.

Job done and now gear change is silky smooth :)

Its a 2005 TD4. Well guys I have been out and measured the Scorpions (at about 6mm) measure 2140mm and the new ones measure 2155mm. The question is will approx 15mm cause a problem?

I suspect there was more difference with the Scorpions all round than there is now. When I took it on the motorway yesterday it actually felt better than it has for a while. The car has always had the tyres changed in pairs since I got it at 40K (it was still on the original Synchrones). New Scorpions were fitted to the back when synchrones were discontinued and the cycle continued. It still has the original VCU working as it should and its now done 110k.
 
I seem to remember LR saying a difference of '5' is acceptable - but I'm not sure if that's 5% (in which case you're fine) or 5mm (radius or diameter) in which case you're questionable.

It might be worth after your next drive seeing if the VCU is warm or hot. Hot will be a warning.

Changed over to Winter tyres.

Installed the rear parking sensors, will post pictures in another thread. Bottom line is they are unreliable to say the least..

Toyed with the idea of selling the modulars and AT's and going back to 17's with Road biased tyres... Hmmm
