Pulled approx 500/600ml of milky slime from my rear diff, and filled up with new fluid. It didn't help though. A recon unit is required!

To be expected. It's old and has not had the care and attention of the rest of the drive train. An unwelcome expense, but I'll be keeping it going.

Yeh, it happened at the same time he got an electric car.
He's probably run out of power and stuck somewhere.
I hope rescue arrives before the Pringles run out.
Yep - I was going to ask last week, as I know some on here know him personally, but thought it might sound ‘nosey’!
I just assumed/hoped he was simply away on holibobs or something.
I fear the worst if he has crossed into the EV world without appropriate training

Trying to hunt down a niggily noise from the running gear ‘somewhere’. I’m still half-thinking it’s tyre noise…
Spent yesterday checking the front wheels/brakes - found the pads binding slightly so took off, cleaned and refitted, with copper grease (drier than the gobi in there!).
Started to flush out the brake fluid for new, then found a seized bleed nipple on the rear, so new drums/calipers/service kit going on. I’ve never changed/serviced the rears, so good maintenance I suppose…
Guess what I’m doing next weekend (apart from swearing, smashing my knuckles, looking for springs from the drum all over my drive…)

New driver's door window regulator and oil / filter change sunny day success!
Followed by trip to recycling centre to dispose of freelander oil, used oil from my Mini's oil change and the oils from my son's daily use motorcycle and his weekends classic bike. Five cans, with about 16litres of oil across them. Recycling centre now takes max five litres at a time.... so that'll be four more unnecessary trips.

What an absolute joke… Most cars take over 5 litres for a single change!

Landies have spilt half their oil on their owners drives, coming in well under 5L when changed.

So today is not so much what I have done to my freelander, but more what I have done for my freelander. I have picked up a 2005 BMW 118d (so I'm familiar with the engine at least!) to be my cheap run around daily driver. This means I can now elevate the FL1 from daily driver to enthusiast weekend vehicle and devote some effort to a bit of a much needed refurb. I'm now able to get some of the bigger jobs done and be without it for a bit and still have transport. First job in the next three or four weeks is new rear diff and refurbed rear subframe.
Something for the weekend, sir?
Nice - it becomes an enjoyable (albeit expensive) hobby-car for you to really enjoy tinkering with and driving

Its funny 'cos my weekday commute car is now the F2 - and although I'm happy just to have a 10 minute commute, I wish the drive was longer
Its a lovely car to drive, and the F1 stays at home for Mrs Grumpy to transport the mutt for her afternoon walks.However, at the weekend, I love jumping back in the F1. I really enjoy driving it. After 13 years, it had almost got too familiar when I was driving it every day, I enjoy it a lot more now.
I have to much going on with the house at the moment, but at some point I to want to do those bigger jobs that you can't do when you rely on it as a daily. For a kick off, I want to hoik the engine/box/IRD out. The old L Series has a number of oil leaks that are becoming embarrassingly large, it's close to needing a new cambelt & clutch and I can (at last) install the uncastrated IRD - if it fooks up again, I can always put the castrated one back in

Currently avoiding the knocks, bangs and creaks as they're expensive, time consuming noises 
Finally got the illumination on the Hazard Switch to work. Unlike the pre-facelift where the bulb has its own external carrier, you have to deconstruct the switch.
Took it apart and was pleasantly surprised to find the bulb is in a removable carrier, not soldered to the board.
Using some tweezers, bent the tails to get the bulb out of the rubber, then pulled the silicone cap off.
In the hunt for a 12v LED, i remembered I had a spare Disco 1 switch with an orange bulb and carrier.
Took that bulb out of the carrier, replaced the orange silicone cap with the blue one, reinstalled into rubber holder and put back together. and it works!!
Relatively pointless but dopamine inducing fixes.
