I replaced the case and the rubber buttons on the old key fob that is a little worse for wear - and the switches are predictably as vague and variable as ever on that fob, especially the unlock button. Looks like it may be time to warm up Mr Soldering Iron to swap in a pair of replacement microswitches...
 
Finally fixed my antenna. The base was broken when I bought it. Easy to access behind the cabin light. But hey, I got my FM radio now!
 
Good news! Hippo passed its MoT!

only advisory was a small hole in the rear silencer. Hopefully not too difficult to sort out :)

the big search for bodywork rust starts when the weather warms up…
 
I paid that much just for a rear box in stainless.
Just been under mine. It is a 2003 and has a 2 bolt front pipe to middle pipe joint so it won't fit which is a shame as I would get one.

Could get stainless flange changed I suppose ??
 
Only really after the back box really - and that’s on a slip joint. Just over 40 quid for one of these, but the stainless system is startlingly cheap. Hate the double exit exhaust tips though, but one could simply not fit it! Lol

I'd love to find a cheap stainless performance exhaust for my FL2. Unfortunately they cost almost £1k, which is ridiculous for what it is.
 
My noisey bearing wasn't a wheel bearing. Two new GKN VCU bearings fitted today and the noise is gone. Discovered that the nearside ball joint has had it though, just before Tuesday's MOT (which will be the tenth in my ownership).

My MOT is due half way through February.
I've not checked anything yet, I've been too busy trying to identify where the coolant is going.
I'm not even sure where I'm going to take it this year.

I'll be going to the Cormac workshops in my depot again. Nice and reliable, not looking for work and will give a fair but safe test. I'd recommend them but it's a bit out of your way I guess, unless you're heading down west for some other reason.

I must admit I try to rectify issues in advance of the MOT.
I know one examiner who if he found one fault he made a game out of the test by seeing how many more he could find. :eek:
The test isn't supposed to be a competition, but he made it one. :mad:
So I'm now very cautious about what condition I sent a vehicle in for the MOT.

I'm thinking it's something to do with the head gasket not being torqued correctly. Although I'm pretty sure I noticed coolant pressurisation and mild loss on the original head too, which is why I suspected the EGR cooler, especially as there was coolant in the EGR pipes. However I used the same torque wrench for that time too, so maybe that was also the same. Let's hope it's not a cracked cylinder liner.:eek:

I'm generally the same, hence getting my noisy bearings sorted. I also like to have the car clean inside and out too. I just don't have timeto sort the ball joint before tuesday so we'll see how it goes.

Yep. I've taken my partner's cars in too over the years. They just don't ever do discounted tests so it's always the standard fee. I could get you booked in if you want and you could have a cuppa in my office whilst you wait. You can also check out all the work going on on the Chivvy Carland scheme on your way over.

The new A30 is coming along, although it looks well behind schedule.
