Ordered a Mongoose cable and JLR SDD software, which I hope will allow me to program a replacement EDC for my FL2.
 
I've had the car 10 years and when I bought it, the tyres were non matched, least worn on the front. Not sure how long it had been driven like that and I will admit to not knowing much about the FL1 transmission at that stage. Soon realised the error of mine/previous owners ways after spending a lot of time on this forum. Thanks.
Assume that could be the reason for early wear of the driveshafts?
IRD rebuilt and ever since, matching tyres, pressures etc.
It would seem I have the original GKN VCU still fitted, the last OWUP test I did, a month ago, returned a 42 second time. Should I change the VCU at this stage?
 
Not only today but over the last few days I've one this.
Found half the soil in Ireland behind the wing liner on the drivers side. Maybe some evidence of past misdemeanours.

I'm hoping to get the engine out this weekend so that I can measure the gearbox for the coupler and adapter plate.

This looks a serious endeavour. Are going to drop the engine and subframe or lift it out?
Subframe is dropped already as can be seen in 2nd last photo so the current plan is to disconnect everything in the way then lower the car as far as possible but still let the engine hoist under. Hopefully with the bonnet removed there will be enough room to lift the engine, gearbox and IRD out.

Are you going to drop the engine/gearbox/IRD assembly out the bottom, lifting the body up with your hoist?
 
Charged my F2 battery, shows green on the battery indicator but it's starting to sound sluggish on engine start - meter showed 12.36V off with 14.5 V charging engine running.
 
I hadn't decided yet but was thinking of lifting the engine out with the car as low as possible.

You might find space is limited, with the box and IRD still attached.
If you are separating the box and IRD, then there's plenty of room for the engine to come out the top. ;)

I had originally planned to remove the IRD first and have most of the bolts out so may go ahead with that to make things easier.
 
Not done it yet, but today I'm going to start to pull the auto box apart, in an attempt to solve the gearbox issue. If it works, I'll be able to get more for it when it goes up for sale.
 
Over the last couple of days, in-between DIY and and fixing Fiat 500 brakes, I pulled out all the gearbox solenoids, tested them, cleaned them, replaced the internal harness and refitted the valve body cover. This was sealed with some leftover nasty sealer from the FL2 engine repair. Unfortunately I didn’t have anything else suitable to hand, so I kept away from this poisonous stuff as much as possible.

Hopefully I'll get the ATF later in the, so I can test the box, in the hope it's been worth my time, and long term health.:oops:

Yes mate, it went mostly to plan until the engine fell off the trolley jack. :eek:
Turned out for the better though cause with it on the jack I was going to have to lift the front of the car higher than I was comfortable with. When it fell off the jack I managed to slip a piece of wood under the sump and had plenty of room, it wasn't too hard to slide out on the wood.
Just spilled its guts on the garage floor while lying at a bad angle. :(
