I started today by cutting the inner wing and grinding it down, no joy, it still caught on the track rod end pinch bolt! I went as far as I dare, then tried again, still touching! I then removed it, threw my spanners in the corner, then gave up! About half hour later my spacers turned up so I went out and fitted them and rebuilt the front end!

What a waste of a day!

Anyone want a 1 day old bearmach 50mm lift kit for £110posted? I'm starting a for sale thread!
 
Agreed, some of them do have many faults but if you own any make of car and hang around with others of the same make and model you will find the same catalogue of faults. Sometimes you will hit lucky and the car will have been looked after and never have any of the faults. If you do suffer any of the faults though most can be fixed and the FL can be an everyday reliable car. Rather like mine. I look at like this, every so often I will have to pay out for something to be fixed this may cost £200 or so but that is very rare. The car is all mine and paid for. I could go out and buy a much newer Disco, Range Rover or Sport however I would be paying out £300+ every month minimum plus the cost of it going wrong every so often on top.
I'll stick with my 53 Freelander that goes wrong every now and then thanks.

Not sure I agree with all cars have quite so many troubles but Agree with your general sentiment. When I say fund an RR Sport, I refer to the means to purchase and maintain without financial concerns, as opposed to on a budget.

Any LR is a very specific car... no matter how old it is. If you would like to live with it, you must learn to accept his flaws. All those little imperfections implemented to each one makes them so perfect :) .

I got a small engraved plate bolted inside my luggage compartment with words :

True that an attachment can be formed that is more than just a car - and for the record, I'm sure your Freelander is a splendid example and applaud your effort and skill in putting it together:)

Bolts to top o strut, same as any spacer. When I had 40mm on mine they just cleared buy hairs breadth.
 
Yeah I know that, but how does it bolt to the chassis? You can't get your arm up there to use a normal nut and bolt, so he must supply some way of securing them.

Same as what you have just done. Spacers bolt to top of strut, then up thru towers etc.

It doesn't. The bearmach kit comes with bolt extensions, these bolt on to the strut then the spacer slots over, then bolts to the chassis.

These can't use the same design as they are using two rings, one ontop of the strut and one on to the chassis. The seller also states only the 50 and 75mm kit comes with bolts.
 
For lifting i strongly recommend Spring Kit or CNC prepared "full" spacers ;)
Better safety and less problems than bearmach kit.

I don't produce them/sell them , just found it when choosing lift kit for myself, and fit for one of my friends FL.

Mine was a bearmach 50mm kit. Told you it was a pain in the arse. The quality is good enough mines had a right pasting and is ok. It took me a good few hours to make it all work. Any 50mm kit will be similar in that department!

That's why I'm looking for a 38/40mm kit now.

I can't see how I can even make it fit. The pinch bolt on the track rod end catches about 4-5mm deep into the chassis rail. I could cut it out and weld it up, but it's wether it would pass the MOT like that, I'm guessing not.

Mine was like that. I cut the lip off completely beat it down then welded it
