Did a few bits in preparation for the MOT tomorrow. I replaced the 2 short brake pipes between the rear flexible pipes and the wheel cylinders. I also replaced the shoes and springs, adjusting the drums correctly, then set the hand brake lever travel.

I swapped all the wheels for a set of 17 Trek (HSE) rims with larger AT tyres.

I replaced the offside front caliper with a new one, as the one on there had seized absolutely solid.
I took the opportunity to make sure the nearside disc assembly was working correctly too.

I also swapped the cam sensor as it randomly flags a code, and puts the MIL on, which isn't ideal before the MOT.

Fingers crossed, it'll pass the MOT, although the brakes feel a bit spongy to me, but I'm OCD.

I also fitted a set of front fogs to my SE, which is something I'd been meaning to do for the last 2 years.

When I took mine up for the MOT recently I thought the tester was going to put his feet through the floor the amount of effort he was putting into lifting the hand brake to get it up to the pass threshold. Decent tester!

That's a decent tester indeed! Our van failed on the handbrake recently as it had been stood for 2 months (handbrake left off but discs were rusty). The chap at the garage kindly offered to drive it around for a bit whilst dragging the handbrake. Worked a treat as nothing else was needed to gain the test threshold.

at the moment, it is not possible to get an MOT test in Northern Ireland because they found cracks in the lifts in all the MOT testing stations so have had to stop doing them.

First I've heard of it!

BBC "The certificates will be issued automatically to drivers whose MoT appointment has been cancelled by the DVA"

Jammy gits.

Not what I've done to my freelander today but what I've agreed to today. I've offered to tow my friend's triumph stag to a classic car specialist about 60 ish miles. The stag weighs about 1270kg. Do people reckon this trailer will weigh less than 730kg? I'm allowed 2000kg total behind my td4 aren't I?

Just checked the label on my vehicle. It's 2080kg so a trailer less than 780kg should be there or there abouts. I've just looked at a few new ones and 3 axle types seem to be around 800/850kg. I reckon if we can find a two axle rental we should be fine. I'll get the trailer plate for the one pictured checked tomorrow.

Although I'd doubt a stag weighs 1270 Kgs, probably closer to 1100 Kgs.
Think 1,270 is the official quoted figure.

A lot of Stags were repowered though. IIRC when repowered with the Rover V8 it is a lot lighter and although the original isn't a light engine, the Ford conversions of the time were even heavier.

Bryian James trailers are always lighter for the same payload capacity than the likes of Ifor Williams, but if you ask the rental co they ought to be able to tell you the weight of their trailer, even if its just by reading the plate on it which should have a tare and mgw on the plate. Being honest with you - I'd chance it for under a hundred kilos overweight - its not endorsable:

It's got the original triumph V8 in it. It's going in for a top end rebuild. I'd have rufused to take it if it had been re-engined with anything other than the triumph unit, unless it was going in to have the triumph V8 put back in ;) Not that I've got an issue with the glorious Rover V8 mind. I just know that with the right work, the Triumph V8 is the right one for the Stag.

That's interesting suff. I'll not risk a fine though, or safety, so I'll make sure we're not overweight.

Hi Andy, I'm a bit late replying to this. How long ago did you fit them? It would be useful to get an appraisal given the amount of poor quality cheap DLs going around. I bought Delphi ones last time but they only seemed to have lasted about a year. I was a bit disappointed. I've been considering getting LR ones at about £50 for a pair if it means they'll last, but if the Comline ones are reasonably robust I'll go for those at that price.
