I've also had immobiliser issues as a hot start is only possible after locking then unlocking the car, which is weird. I can't get enough information on this. Always starts cold though and yes I've read post after post about hot start issues. The only thing left to try are injectors.
I'm pretty sure someone else has reported this exact same behaviour very recently - ie need to lock and unlock the car before it will restart. I can't think why it would be injectors given the symptoms - as you said, sounds more like something to do with the immobiliser. You should find the other thread and see if there was a solution and add to it if not, or start a new one on it.
I just wanted a cheap Land Rover as I can't afford a Defender or a Series. Am I a mug for buying a FL?
Only you can decide that. Freelanders are great little trucks, but if you want a life being shaken to pieces and for ever fighting rust, then you bought the wrong vehicle ;)

You say you paid £150, but presumably you've spent that again on the battery and then again on tyres. Don't know how much the brake work cost, but you're into the car for a reasonable amount of cash already, as well as all the effort you've put into it. Depending on year and condition, you might still get your money back on it though - if you can fix the starting problem.

So up to you if you call it quits and shift to another vehicle or enjoy the Freelander!
 
Well if I find the LR people who thought it was funny to make life difficult for Freelanders users then I was the mug today. My Licence plate light needed replacing so changed the bulb yet when I twisted back on the little bugger still failed to work. HUMPF So I check my capless bulb holder to only see the contacts were rusting ARGGGH. Cleaned them again and refitted but to no avail yet once. Humpf Another check and found a missing contract strip on the holder ARRRRRGGGGH Great! I know I'll check my OTP disk for replacement holder NOPE bulbs no problem but the whole light unit Argh. So for the search ends up also being dead end AS NO LONGER AVAILABLE ANYWHERE ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGH! With wit and guile I have managed solder a new contact and with a tear of joy Success up and running.
As a thought I am sure I'm not the only poor sod to suffer from this. I am sure these capless bulb holders are available to joe public somewhere what say ye.

Just got back from 200 miles of towing a caravan using the FL2. Could hardly tell I was towing anything, until I worked out the mpg. 24 miles to the gallon!
Can’t complain though. Nothing broke, overheated, or made a funny noise.

Well, I love my FL1 but sometimes, aged car ownership really tests you. My suspension knocks are now at the back of my mind as today my air con compressor decided to pack in. I guess it's the pulley bearings as it has been squeaking a bit for a while when switched on. Do I take a chance on a 2nd hand compressor or should I try and find the cash for a new one? (I'm a bit skint after recent works carried out on the car). Third option is leave it I guess because presumably this is what the L series sounds like anyway?:p



Que an hour spent searching Compressor and reading threads on replacement.
 
There is a thread with the details of a replacement bearing that you can fit - if it makes a noise but works it probably is the bearing, sometimes slackening the belt reduces the noise to see if it is that. If it is no longer providing cold air then maybe a replacement is best.
