Ebay almost always take the side of the buyer, regardless of what the seller says. Not good for sellers but great for us when this kind of thing happens.

Morning you dirty stop up :) ...As it always been like that with ebay ? - I have not has to use the resolution centre before despite lots and lots of purchases. Then like busses three come along at once. I was actually impressed.
 
My TD4 is fitted with the twin tail pipe box. If it were a single tail pipe box, I'd have had the new silencer fitted already. My plan is to simply cut out my rusty box and graft in the new SS box. The pipes to the box are fine. The box has split at the top seam. However my box has two 2" tail pipes, so I needed something to direct the gasses rearwards. This is where the 90° elbow comes in.
I'd have preferred to save a few £ by using the original box tail pipe, but with my current box, that wasn't going to happen.

Ebay resolution centre are involved. I have had a run of things not arriving recently. All needing Ebay to step in. It's bloody infuriating when you have to wait ages for something that should arrive in a couple of days. The box arrived the day after I ordered it. Why everything else can't is beyond me.

Have you never heard the expression 'dirty stop out' ? :) - oft' used in Yorks, Lancs in a (mostly) humorous way to a person who came home 'later than expected due to nocturnal debauchery' :D
In your case it is a dirty stop UP....:p The nocturnal debauchery would still apply as you were probably doing something immoral and possibly illegal to various delectable Freelander parts .. or else perusing the empty-net for pictures of 'wheels and tyres' muttering things like "look at the size of the rims on that" and "Fooking 'ell - what I wouldn't give to GRAB 'ERS !!! - Knobbles like organ stops :eek:" - whilst at the same time frantically typing with one hand....:rolleyes:

A bit late to the discussion but here is a short video of our local firefighting behemoth, the Martin Mars.
7200 Gallons! per drop, and it can scoop that water out of a lake in 15 seconds without stopping.
Its absolutely phenomenal up close!
The two Martin Mars are currently for sale if anyone wants to start a Hippo washing service. :D

What a beast ! :).. looks a bit like a Sunderland flying boat. Hard to believe they were retired from the US Navy in 1956 !. used as a water scoop / bomber must put one hell of a stress on the airframe.. It would be a fabulous sight to see in action though Rich.
It would be too large for the available water here - mostly rivers and dams. I wouldnt like to try to get spares for it either o_O

Valid point - one issue with alloy is deformity - this can be a permanent thing. Under the sump it can wreak havoc.
We used to use Duralloy or thick polycarbonate . it is ok having protection for a general area, however, localised 'deformity' that does not rebound is a real issue.
3/8" poly C is pretty damn good for sensitive areas.

I had the front of my TD4 sitting on top of a rock with the front wheels in the air on my alloy sump guard with no problems and it is a lot thinner than 6mm, although it was stiffened by curving around some 5mm alloy in the middle. Unless your racing or are likely to hit a big rock at speed the alloy should be fine.
Having said that I'm not happy mine is strong enough for repeated abuse so will upgrade it. I never thought of Pollywotsit and never heard of duralloy so will have to look them up.
 
Poly carbonate is simply amazing stuff !. you can hit it with the largest sledge hammer and it will 'fart in your general direction'

I'm using the smooth face of the alloy thinking that this will slide over and obstructions fairly easily - trying to avoid damaging my new muffler of 'dislocating' the rubber exhaust hangers back there.

My front plate is pretty good but I do have to mod the design a wee bit. The trailing edge does more up when I fit a lump and necessitates removal to straighten/flatten it out. The rear fixing brackets are to light - I might add a bit of 6mm plate and fix that to the cross member. The other thing is I didn't locate the exhaust cut out accurately. It needs to be 50mm towards the left wheel as the front pipe itself isn't in the centre. Having that alloy plate off a rally car wasn't cheap as that lot cost nearly £200 [$400NZ] for the welding!

That looks serious kit !. We had the problem with the rally cars that material that was not substantial enough, or would not return to its original state was a potential risk as any deformity remained and could cause other issues. On steel pan sump units we usually got away with it as they just bent a wee bit ;) .. but on dry sump systems we had issues. We changed to Duraluminum (I believe it is an aircraft grade alloy) that was amazing. incredibly hard stuff !.) - that is probably what you have if it came from a rally car
Also had good success on some applications with polycarbonate. Dural plate is simply excellent though.

I just gave it a nice wash after having returned from a 700 mile round trip over the weekend, (getting closer to the 100k mark!). The new lower tie bar mount has made motorway cruising much smoother!

A quick question to those with silicone intercooler hoses... is it normal for them have residue form on the outer surfaces after some use? I cleaned all three hoses before my trip away, but when I checked today, there is very fine oil-type film, like condensation on them. I'm guessing with the rain etc it is just crud off the road spray that settles/collects on the material? (I regularly clean this type of film off them when working in the engine bay)

Also, does the intercooler generally get as full as much crud as the inlet manifold on a non-blanked EGR set up? - I need to take the front bumper off to attend to some of the rust before winter, so am wondering if it's worth cleaning out the intercooler to make it more effective while it's accessible?

I've just fitted my rear end under protection today, sounds dodgy! Again a large piece of scrap 6mm cheater plate from the scrap yard - £15:) I'd made a cardboard mock up, cut the alu' to shape... had it bent up at the engineering shop, drilled air/drain holes... Done
