It's an active sensor iirc. These are normally supplied with 5 Volts and ground. The signal would generated as the cam segment goes past the sensor. It supplies a timed on/off pulse to the ECU as the engine rotates. These sensors do fail on the V6 and on BMW engines too. It's a BMW sensor fitted to the KV6, but I can't remember which BMW they are fitted to.Well it looks as if my Camshaft sensor isn't going to last very long, took a while for it to fire today and the code has appeared again. Could someone let me know what the output volts should be on the loom connector please? V6 if that makes any difference.

Too funny. I just replaced all my belts and tensioners this week. It's an 04 KV6 SE. Only 85,000kms on her but she is 12 years old. Also threw on new toyo 18" AT Truck Tires. Getting her ready for the summer road trip.The factory timing belts will last over 100,000 Miles as it's a good system. However once the belt gets to those sort of Miles and over 8 years or so, you start to play timing belt roulette!! Over here a few years back, there was a glut of 100k 8 year old MG ZS 180 on the market with broken belts. These came about because the cost of a belt change was greater than the car's value.
It prompted me to do the DIY KV6 belt guide in my sig.

Current dog loves the car, would sit in it all day if he could - I think because he associates it with going for a walk. He can be a bit excitable when we have visitors, so we put him in the car! He jumps in all happy, but when we turn round and walk back down the path to the house you can see his expression drop and he realises he's been "had" again Still happy to sit in there and wait patiently though.
That's a very well sorted induction system, if you do that.last couple of weeks been playin' with r.rons' turbo controller .. dgb1

rattling roof-panel latches .. temp. fix .. silicon lube on the hinges ..
