LOL, Rich and me both spent a lot of time in MGRover.org which was known as .org but it isn't as popular as it used to be. Facebook took a lot of people and the rubbish system it's based on isn't a patch on Landyzone.
Aha! I knew your name was familiar. After owning F's for a few years the Hippo doesn't worry me too much. Like you say they are really pretty similar. I have a Blackbox Nano diagnostic setup and will get the Freelander software to go with it.
I did the carbon fibre binnacle on the F but apparently the resin wasn't UV resistant and it went all milky and looks terrible. I'm trying to decide whether to cover it with leather or just paint it. That will be a good winter project. My current big job on the F is finishing an alloy hardtop I bought from Mike Satur when he moved his warehouse. I'm going to have a go at polishing it for the fighter plane look.:D The Freelander doesn't need much. I'm going to change all of the fluids and install a bluetooth head unit. Other than that the sunroof isn't working but that can wait as it has air-con for the summer
LOL, Mine went yellow too so I'm thinking along the same lines. It is really reflective too, it seems to reflect the sun onto one point in the windscreen which is Very bright. I did manage to fit my front polybushes over the winter so it is driving great now.
 
When I bought my Freelander recently I did it with the idea that I could always use the KV6 in my MGF, but I am enjoying the Hippo so much that is out of the question. Almost all of the Freelanders here are KV6. The only TD4 I have seen is a conversion that was recently for sale for $10,500.cdn. That's $3500. more than I paid for my 2004 KV6. I was surprised that the book value for mine was $9000. as that price is almost unheard of. It's very common to see Freelanders for sale with dead engines. They all seem to be due to cam belt or head gasket problems so those in NZ aren't the only ones who tend to ignore maintenance.:rolleyes:

I got a couple of small jobs out of the way. Bought a set of wheel center caps off E-bay but got grey ones instead of silver as the seller was too lazy to put the proper picture in his ad. I left negative feedback and he sent me a refund which was enough to buy some silver wheel paint to repaint them. Also repainted the worn inner door pulls at the same time and replaced the rear wiper blade for good measure. While at the back I realised the previous owner had installed the spare wheel with three McGard locking nuts and didn't provide the key so I have ordered a new set of locks online and will butcher the old ones off. Here's hoping I don't get a flat before that's done!

I have an MGF and a rebuilt KV6 ready to fit. I'll join them together, if I ever get the chance.
Most KV6 head gasket failures are due to coolant loss, via the dreadful thermostat assembly.
Cam belt failure is just simple laziness, nothing els.

Agreed, there is no excuse for cam belt failure. Here there are very few small shops that work on Land Rovers so when people see the dealer prices for a belt change they tend to put it off-often for too long. When I bought my FL1 a recent belt change was a must-have.

The factory timing belts will last over 100,000 Miles as it's a good system. However once the belt gets to those sort of Miles and over 8 years or so, you start to play timing belt roulette!! Over here a few years back, there was a glut of 100k 8 year old MG ZS 180 on the market with broken belts. These came about because the cost of a belt change was greater than the car's value.
It prompted me to do the DIY KV6 belt guide in my sig.

Went to start it yesterday and it wouldn't, would spin freely but not catch. Thankfully I have a reliable 1.8T ZT so jumped in that. Anyway got the TorqPro App on it and it came up with a dodgy camshaft sensor. Again. I replaced it just two months ago. Got one from the local motor factors and away it went, thankfully.

Surely these things should last more than a few weeks? Should I get a spare just in case????

Are they OEM parts or cheap garbage? And get a spare, or order an original.

My mate bought a MAF sensor from eurocarparts for his SLK and is having to reset the warning light every few months. He looked into it and apparently it is a common issue with cheaper (it was around £70 so not cheap) sensors.

I had the same problem with the cam sensor on my wife's PT Cruiser. Cheap ones just didn't last so I paid top dollar for a genuine Chrysler part
and no more worries.
 
Lots of peeps dicing with death here! Hope none of the wives see this, or we'll be down on numbers!

Needed to get a couple of old doors down the tip today, so finally got the roof rails shifted over from the project/parts car to the daily.

LOL, not likely, too engrossed in stalking horses and their owners/riders in the local showjumping scene.
