Go easy with the acetone, There is a reason ladies use it to remove nail paint. It's paint stripper.
Stupid question but I'll ask anyway, are you sure it isn't tar from a road worker lorry. If so a drop of petrol on a cloth and it will just wipe off.

But is it a face lift?? If you look closely I think you'll find its an old K series with face lift bits on. Either that or my eyes are tired and I need to go to bed

I have a job where I'm out on the roads most of the day and play a game with my mate, of spot the landrover. Being very sad and a bit nerdy I'm very good at it and I see alot of landrover's. That's a 1.8 K series. Looks wrong for a TD4. Suspension not at the right height (lighter engine) wrong wheels, colour of the wing mirrors plastic, etc. As said, I'm a sad bast*rd

I couldn't be 100% sure but from the side it looks like a facelift. The bumpers, head and tail lights are all correct. The mirrors are post 2000, as are the brakes. It's sitting low, which suggests sport suspension. Other than that, the picture has given up all it's going to.But is it a face lift?? LOL, will take your word for it, Are those steel wheels painted? Yes there steel wheels and have been painted. I've searched for it on the net, but cannot find the original advert. But it looks wrong for a TD4. So I'm sticking with a K series that has had some facelift parts put on. Can someone please find the original ad, it's driving me crackers

I know. As stated. I believe it's an old K series that someone has fitted facelift parts to. Which is why it's confusing me as to what it actually is

The mad hat man, thanks for the link. I have just read it. I have the full QF32 report on my desk. when managers push me to sign things I normally shove that in thier hand and tell them I will sign it when they have read QF32. They either wont read it so I dont sign or itvtakes them a week to read it by which time I have done the work to enable me to sign it.

Just seen your question. A very brief description below.
An oil pipe broke, allowing oil into a hot part of the engine which ignited. We use air pressure to keep oil in the specific places where oil is needed because there is not a material that can withstand the temperatures to make oil seals from.
Because the fire compromised the air system the oil ran out of the bearings on the stage two compressor so the shaft snapped. At this point the engine analysis said the engine would surge way outside allowable margins and engine management system would cut the fuel. however it surged within allowable limits so the fuel continued to flow allowing the second stage turbine to spin up until it could no longer withstand the centrifugal forces and it exploded into three parts. The T900 WAS the only engine without a second stage turbine speed sensor.
If you want to know the true root cause in manufacture you need to read the report, its only 300 pages
