Headlining was getting wet and sagging by the tailgate door edge - sound crap but I put a strip of black "duck tape ultra" along the top of the rear window plastic surround -headlining is now dry as a bone so at least I know where rain is coming in, I'll see if the boot locker dries out too.

Finally got all the lights working on the heater controls and sorted a weird problem on my stereo where the front right speaker wouldn't work until the car was warmed up! I also managed to route my CB radio aerial through the back door following the wiring loom into the back, then got as far as the back seat before it got dark. Oh, and finally got the switch on my synergy box mounted inside so I can swap between Eco money saving mode and performance mode as required. I'll see how wallet friendly it is when driving up to Leeds for Christmas today to see the In-laws...

Nothing serious. Just a bulb blown. It had been like that since I bought the car. Not sure how easy the original controls are for getting to the back off, but it was centre console out and some tricky manoeuvring to do it on the facelift one, hounded by the fact that I have a different head unit fitted and the cage restricts movement too.
A good point and worth noting though... Whilst doing all this I decided to give the control knobs a good clean, scrubbing them with an old toothbrush. I noticed that the white paint on the markers was coming off so decided to get it all off properly with the intention of repainting them. However I noticed they were a dark translucent green underneath. On close inspection it turned out that they'd originally been designed to illuminate! So I decided to leave them all cleaned off and refitted them. I turned the dash illumination on and hey presto, the markers glowed green. Not that bright, but perfectly visible in the dark... So the question is why did Land Rover paint them in the first place?

I had done as you say to the switches - pity the back lighting isnt a tad stronger - anyhow, removed drivers door card and sprayed liberal amounts of WD40 on window regulator - squeak cured till next time!

Encouraged by stories of green laning on here and reports of bad winter ahead, decided to return FL to 4x4 again (not for first or last time, if this makes sense), anyhoo, its not stopped raining since. This was about 3 weeks ago, so now I'm thinking, can I get away with it again? Don't need 4 wheel drive for a bit o rain but snow errrm! Bugger, guess I will have to get under the bloody thing - answered my own question but have typed this now so will post.

Anyone know anything about a 2 litre petrol engine that went into some early Disco's? Reason being these turbo doozals many of you chaps have in FL's and Disco's seem a bit complicated and a V8 petrol does around 17 mpg - dilemma, as i'm now thinking stick with petrol. I've never owned an oil burner!

btw : they're not complicated .. no more so than petrol versions

washed it .. changed engine oil and filter .. (castrol 5/40 synthetic )
checked speedo 'n scangauge mph against a gps unit ..
scangauge is accurate .. hippo speedo is slow
ran the ac/demist fan 'on' constantly .. for the past 320 miles ..
synergy2a on '10' ..
driving 'allsorts' .. lazy B roads .. fast dual.c's / M-ways .. moderate s.c. A roads ..
and four drop-a-gear-foot-almost-to-floor overtaking manoeuvres.. and some snappy hill-climbing ..
still getting 42 mpg

Driven a good few, so no issue there. My other half has a VW doozal company car, just never had to maintain one. More I read on here, more realise I dont have good knowledge an much seems to need modifying etc.

Thanks DD. Produced 01 May 1993 - 01 Jul 1997. More power than Tdi, 134 vs 111bhp. Need to do some research on the T series. Think on balance would be more comfortable with naturally aspirated petrol. Sorry tb off topic again.
