Today i have started to facelift the rear end. I seemed to have forgotten all the troubles removing stuff from my FL. One bolt and one screw rusted shut and i used about 1 hour just to remove those :mad:

But finally done taking things apart and can go on with the facelift. Will take some pictures on the way if anyone is interested in whats needed to get it done.

Some new bits and pieces needed for the rear facelift:

Bumper, lights, wheel arch extensions and tailgate trim. I also got new bolts,screws and scrivets. I just realized im missing the right tailgate trim. I also need to change the wheel arch extensions on the rear doors. Anyone done this before? I dont have the doors with black extensions here, but i tried briefly without any success earlier this year. Not mentioned in Rave either. When i removed the extensions from the front wings. They where full of sand so was very difficult to get off.

Update: Isnt really that big of a job to facelift the rear end. Everything is bolt on, except there are two small spot welded brackets that you need to remove and there is a little "bump" in the chassis under the fog/reverse light that you need to handle. Ideally you would cut it out and weld a plate over it. But my 6.5kg sledgehammer sorted that out nicely. This might explain why there isnt a lot of photos around here showing it how its done :D

Now i just need to drill out two holes for the facelift fog/reverse lights(only the lower one is right), sort out the wiring and fit the tailgate trim. I also need new mudflaps...

Had my MOT done today passed bar a bit of welding on the sills at rear both sides, fitted a new coolant temp sensor, fixed my horn that was broken the day of the test, it was luckily the yellow relay box just loose. Hopefully get another year out of this old 1998 l series. I really like these motors, I find the forum really helpful, just wish more people would post stuff that actually fixed things.

Fitted BMW oil separator using this one good price came with all the rubber seals/gaskets

Changed engine oil and filter and air filter

Also changed pollen filter this has been in about a year and was really blocked the air con works a lot better now.

Traced an oil leak to the IRD output shaft oil seal so will have to top up the oil for now as I'm going on holiday on friday and working till then so don't have the time to change the seal before then.
 
had a real issue this morning and had to limp home, thinking it was the fuel filter i finally hooked up the heated fuel filter so i could run 100% veg oil.

still running like a bag of spanners

turned out to be the inline primer bulb had cracked! replaced and all fixed :)

also fitted the facelift front bumper.

Very impressed with these L Series Facelifts. IMHO best Freelander combo :) Are the panels and bits coming from breakers yards?

Don't forget the black plastic brackets for underneath the headlights? These are essential and are completely different to the grey ones under you'r old headlights. Without them the new headlights will break their locating brackets as the headlights will vibrate too much with nothing underneath them. Also what do you plan to do about the wiring? I have a "plug and play" loom that plugs into you'r existing loom and straight into the new headlights. Great for if you ever need to return the front end back to normal as you don't need to do a re-wiring job................

I bought some from a breaker yard quite cheap here in Norway, some parts from a guy breaking a 2005 1.8 and some stuff off ebay co.uk.

Ill just make some metal ones. Im too tight to buy em!
I will rewire them as I cannot see me putting it back to standard, especially after i lobbed the front bumper!
i got my bits randomly off ebay, just need the r/h headlight now!

hardest bit of the conversion so far, getting all the little phillips screws out of the captive fasteners holding the inner arches etc on. Resorted to bolt croppers in the end. easiest way! Spent ages messing about with a drill till i got cheesed off.

I need to wash my blue one so that I can polish it and put it up for sale... are you saying that I shouldn't wash it and should just tell buyers that "thats how it was when it was new" and that "I can't wash it cos something might break"?
 
I miss my freelander so much I could cry, I'm driving a Peugeot 307 its a nice motor but boring in comparison. I don't even want just any freelander I want my one back :hurt:
 
Changed the oil & filter, then tried starting it. Dead. As a Dodo. No idea why the battery has gone flat. Couldn't even lock it using the fob.

I also changed the pipercross sir filter for a normal one. Also changed the turbo filter.

Tomorrow I will change the fuel filter and the cabin filter.
 
Had its MOT today it FAILED!!!!!!!!:(

but good news is its only adjustment needed on pass side handbrake ,so should just be a few adjustments on the wheel ,using a screw drivers in back of drum :):):):):):):):)
 
Replaced from Wiper motor and mechanism , now wipers return to park position :high5:

Looked at Fuel Guage ( reads empty when full etc) sender bloody thing is half way :frusty:
