Whilst fitting my new droparm I noticed the hockey stick axle end bushes looked a bit iffy. Got a kit and a bolt set from island 4x4 and did them yesterday.
Quite shocked how bad they were and how well she handled considering. The centre tubes were just in fresh air. Pic was the first stick, doing one side at a time to hopefully keep axle elightment summut like, other stick was much worse but didn't take a pic as my hands were oily.

Replaced front o/s CV joint and no more knocking noises turning corners (see https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/wheel-bearing-or-cv-joint-noises.385546/#post-5523371):) Easy job per se, just fiddly bits to remove first such as brake mud shield and brake calliper which look like they'd been on forever.

Also slipped past 130,000 miles today to 130,010!

To do.....

- 2 small holes in rear exhaust need patching or new rear pipe and box needed;
- penny sized hole in rear crossmember (that's after scrapping away the rot, was a pinhole!); rest is solid so can patch it hopefully;
- n/s bulkhead windscreen corner is rotting just above the windscreen hinge; welded a plate in a couple of years ago but gone above it. Rest of the bulkhead is sound and will try and patch it rather than a new corner section.

And a question please.....can the windscreen be loosened enough to raise it from the lower seal without removing the whole lot as it would make fitting the fillet easier? Cheers.

It's a bit of a story, but I haven't posted for months, so I'll go for it.
I lost my keys last Wednesday. Has the usual man look for them, but no joy. The Mrs said she would look when she got home from work. Now this usually solves the mystery of lost items, which usually turn up hidden in plain sight. :oops: But, not this time! The big hunt was on: every room gone through, chairs and cushions, other cars searched with a torch, main bin gone through :eek: recycling bin emptied out. I then searched a few woods where I'd recently been shooting squirrels...nothing.
I got the other fob out, which used to be the main one I used, but it had started playing up about a year ago, so I swapped for the other one. It was still playing up. Popped it open to find the disarm button had come adrift from the PCB.

I wrapped some copper wire around the tip of my soldering iron to get a fine soldering bit.

Soldered it back in, but it didn't work. I'm guessing it had started to fail and the increasing vigorous pressing to get it to work broke it off. So, I ordered two new ones off ebay.
Meanwhile it occured to me that probably the only place I'd not looked for the lost keys was my squirrel freezer! So I started lifting out the many bags of frozen squirrels, hoping I'd dropped them in there and they'd slipped through to the bottom. Only got to the third bag and I heard the tinkle of metal.

And there they were! Thought I was never going to see them again and, at this point, thought the chances of the other fob working again were slim.
The two micro switches came faster than predicted by ebay and I've soldered one straight in. Bingo.......it worked straight away.
So now I have two, very old, but working key fobs.

@Al2O3 , pray tell...why do you have a freezer full of squirrels?
I live in Northumberland and we still have some red squirrels here. There are a lot of red squirrel conservation groups across the North of England from The Lakes in Cumbria, to over the East coast here. I'm in the local group, so I shoot and trap grey squirrels to try and keep them out of the woods where there are still red squirrels in existence. It's a constant battle. I save my squirrels and then deliver them, when I've collected about 50, to a zoo. They use them to feed things like Lynx, Scottish Wild Cats, Servals etc
Many people, like Grebby, eat them, but I don't :)
 
Fitted a new fuel sender unit to the Ninety, Bearmach arrived so that will be interesting if its no good. Haven't tested it yet as I didn't want to be disappointed!
Fitted some Mudstuff windscreen pillar trims to the 90.
 
Finally got around to removing the mounting brackets for the non existent rear mud flaps from the rear crossmember. They undid without too many swear words And made the rear look a bit tidier. However, I think I may be looking at the galvy chassis option in the next year or two… 🤔🙄
 
After promising for years to replace my rusted and crusty old side steps on my 19 year old 90 (a mere pup I know) I finally got round to fitting them (like for like), after struggling with a couple of stubborn bolts that required my Dremel to grind them off, once the old ones were removed I got the new steps on in a few minutes and they look much better when I look out of my window to admire my Landy and see other people admiring it too as they walk passed, as they do. I hope the new ones last a bit longer then 19 years.

Took the gear box with the transfer box out as there was a terible grinding ....... ........ Transfer box is banjaxed the rear prop flange wobbles about. what do the serial numbers mean

What make of standard clutch is best as i may as well fit a new one, where can ui get a box . Truck has just 225000 miles . I am in Preston Lancs.
 
There is a lot of info on tut-web about these transfer boxes, basically yours is a type 22D which has a 1.410:1 ratio and is from a defender.
You can get them repaired or purchase a recon unit, Ashcroft are a good company, there are others...

When other people are walking by it's not to admire its to work out how to nick it !
 
yep i know i'm not using lucas colours for the dip and main but i didn't have th right colours in 2mm so i've gone with yellow with red black and green for dip main and spot option
