Ahhh, wire from the ground on the motor, poked out, past the speedo cable, into the engine bay and to the earth just along from the heaterplug relay (or is it just before on a Lefty ?)
 
I've just been out in the rain and put on the new door mirror that arrived today. It replaces the one that was broken last weekend by a young man who was helping me load timber onto the roofrack. It's nice to be complete again.
 
Put mine on the ramp last Sat and noted slight dampness on the back of the fuel tank ... checked on Sunday and saw a few drips so put a towel on the floor.
As I know there is a weeping when the tank is over 40ltrs I thought i'd get a new tank anyway and ordered up the bits.
I'd been away for this week and popped up to the shed with the new tank to find .....

Most annoying - why did I think it wasn't more than the odd drip ....
 
Yesterday removed the Boomslang wiring loom that's been playing up for a while [why I installed this Lord only knows. It's the only piece of electrical wiring I didn't do myself and it's the only part that's been causing grief/intermittent fault to the RHS headlamp]. Then ran two new feeds direct from the battery to 2x spare fuse slots.

Tonight started planning the wiring route from the fuse o/p's to the relays to be mounted on the bulkhead and discovered there's no easily access to the bulkhead loom/cable plates...so out with the dashboard corner piece and discovered the long dash tray can be opened by popping the little black plastic rivet jobbies without taking out the whole dash. Result!

So this to share if others need to access the cable plate on the passenger side bulkhead, just pop the plastic rivets and carefully lift the base tray. This gives good access from the fuse box to the rear of bulkhead grommet to engine bay.

Took some junk to the tip and saw this flight case in the recycle 'shop', good condition with just a little corrosion on the latches. Solid aluminium made in Germany, £20.

The lid hinges either way or can be removed, and it fits across the wheel arches next to the bulkhead perfectly with room underneath for a small box to two. Holds the hi-lift jack, breaker bar, bottle jack, sets of spanners, sockets and screwdrivers, tow rope, shackles plus a few odds and ends and some space for more.

A minor problem is that the lid doesn't open fully as the round corner buffers just catch on the tub rail by 2-3mm each side but I reckon some judicious hammering, filing or dremelling will sort that.

Mobile Storage Systems have similar for £295 so I'm happy with this find.

Just to note the photo of the corner ball buffer is on a different case, but mine has the same type of buffer maybe a bit heavier duty.
I'm thinking two diagonal cuts like an X then bash the triangles flat?
Thoughts welcome.

I looked at the V8…. If only I had the time & space to put one back into mine.
Mrs says it was a mistake taking it out in the rebuild.
 
You meant to undo the engine mounts not rip them apart

They were seized and wouldn't budge so the reciprocating saw was the only answer!
We are going to find out what the damage is before making a decision.

A V8 has been discussed but more likely a 300tdi and auto box if the engine is totally goosed!
 
Ordered some custom made oil cooler pipes as the Disco 200tdi ones I was using no longer fit the new radiator layout. Just hoping that my measurements were accurate!

Yes, here - zoom in to bulkhead just top left of the heater box, the bulkhead has two access plates each with three grommets. This is an older pic but shows the grommets...I took out the middle blanking grommet and replaced with a new cable grommet.

Best laid plans and all that......drilled out the rivets and removed the domed corner protectors but the lid still catches the window frame. There's nothing to trim further as it is the frame that's too big, just a few mm but enough to stop the lid raising more than the window frame. I can take the lid off but that involves juggling it up and around inches from the windows so it's a real faff; the idea was a secure box with easy access!
Can use the box in the house to store stuff so the 90 is back to the individual storage boxes on the wheel arches, and the jack, breaker bar etc behind the front seats.
