Mine's seen a few days of real use acting as a "tractor" at the campsite on Friday while we were pruning trees - think we need a bigger trailer though!

Due to some poor planning it then spent Saturday sat on the field hitched to a caravan, while I used my wife's volvo to haul motorway scalpings around the site, until i gave up and hitched the trailer to my mate's D2 instead. (unhitching a caravan with a dodgy jockey wheel just seemed like too much effort)

I did also get a chance to drive another friend's 2011 Hilux... i can see why he traded in his 300tdi disco!

Then today was a 100 mile round trip up to Birdlip in Gloucestershire

Reminded me why I bought a Disco - works really well off road hauling trailers on a (sometimes quite muddy) field, but with half an hours tidying up it also makes a decent family car to take 5 people out for the day in comfort.

Seeing as I haven't taken it off-road yet and was bored while finishing up at work today decided to test out the articulation using the forklift:

Rather pleased with that effort :)

Then noticed the small top coolant hose appears to be leaking, maybe just when it's on the move and up to temperature.
Makes me wanna save up for this complete silicone kit available on eBay:

So much want!!!!!

I had a bit of time to kill today while I was at the field where I keep my horses. I thought I'd take the rear bumper off to sort out the plastic corners that were hanging off. One of the bolts was seized and I snapped it getting it out, so then had to drill it and tap what was left of it out with a screwdriver and club hammer! Then fashioned a new bolt out of a piece of threaded rod and two nuts. All went back together ok, but I was particularly chuffed with this job as it really was done 'in the field', literally, with what I had in the back of the disco!

Top hose replacement today. A month or so with an M8 bolt in the bleed screw hole was enough.

Snapped the new breaker bar trying on the wheel bearing again. Which now has a proper wobble on.

Thinking of buying an inch drive torque multiplier, and going back to a different halfords to get yet another breaker. I'm pretty sure that using a car to apply torque doesn't invalidate the warranty that has disclaimers for cheater bars and impact.

This a D2 wheel hub? what size is that breaker, 1/2 or 3/4?

Cheers

I would think a 3/4" 1 metre bar should do the trick , they should not be that tight.
hope you are using a 6 sided socket on it.

Cheers

Yup. Old 32mm 6 sided socket. Should probably get the imperial impact option.

Buy it's the toss up now of trying to convince halfords to let me pay the difference for an upgrade, or just picking up a cheapy torque multiplier for 40 quid and hoping to get somewhere and gain a handy new toy.

This is the bar I plan to use when I have to do this, with a 32mm impact socket. ( std 1/2 torque wrench next to it.)

Fitted a light bar

Shame I work nights so cant go out and see what it's like on a quiet road

Looks like a new/rebuilt R380 box is on the horizon, the box in our D2 V8 has started getting really noisy in 4th and 5th, which seems to be the mainshaft and layshaft bearings on the extension housing going south.

Ashcroft do a heavy duty upgrade for an extra £160 on top of the cost of the R380 box, probably worthwhile as we tow a lot.

Got a show in Holland at the end of May, so need to get that organised fairly quickly.

had enough working on the airbags , so for a change decided to replace the air tank and reservoir valve

think the old one was abit knackered

will set up and adjust heights of the suspension in the week

was nice doing something different for a change

Finally fixed something.

Fed up of seeing this:

So changed it to this:

After taking my actuator apart to try and fix the non working passenger locking (without success) I went investigating.
And found this:

Which I changed to this:

Which resulted in this:

And this:

Very pleased with myself for that 10 minutes of troubleshooting this evening.

The next stage of the wiring today

Firstly, indicator repeaters. I dont like the low-down bumper indicators on the disco - i dont think they're particularly visible (particularly to other tall vehicles). I'm also conscious that when I tow a flatbed trailer the rest of the lights on the car are visible, so if the trailer electrics fail my brakes, rear lights etc are in sight. The indicators are not. So, two repeaters mounted above the rear light cluster and wired in.

Secondly, the two rear strobes (cheap crap) that I fitted last year didnt survive the winter very well... so replaced them with a pair of larger strobes I had lying around the garage. Also moved them down from the roof bars and mounted them on the gutter above the rear door

Next the worklights. These were mounted on the roof last year, but i never got round to wiring them up. Took a while to run the cables but eventually they connected up to the switch in the ceiling in the cab.

Then I got tired obviously. The last job was to fit a connector for the dashcam in the ceiling, rather than have to run a cable up from the dashboard. All fine, spare 12v ignition feed up there, perfect. I cut the end off an old USB cable and then, foolishly, wired that in.

I'm sure you'll point out the stupidity of doing so. Like i said, I was obviously tired. The moment i saw the puff of smoke from the dashcam I realised that what i'd done was wire a 5v dash cam into a 12v supply.

Expensive mistake :(

Nothing today as like my p38 all is good but tomorrow I'm gonna do the rocker gasket as its leaking and shortly installing a dash can duel camera front and rear.
