Finally got around to the front wheel hub on the infernal disco 2.

Three 1/2" breakers snapped, ended up buying a 1:58 torque multiplier off the bay of E. 43 quid, got the nut off fine, with only minor amounts of it lifting the car.

Well worth the investment I reckon.
 
Topped up both CV joints with one shot grease. The addition of the little plastic tube that comes with it now has made life a lot easier since the last time I did them!

may i ask please , i've been reading that on later models they have omitted the extra holes, where there useto be 3 and now only one

how on earth do u know then how much is in there, or is it the case of having to remove everything out first then starting again

sorry being abit of a dim question
 
I just pushed it in until it started coming out of the fill hole. One side took almost a full sachet, the other side took the full one without squashing out the top.

thks mate , that's good to know with it being a fill and level hole

trying to remember as i think on my series i filled it with ep90 , but see it's now moved o to this one shot grease

as there's only one hole is it the case of having to remove the large cv joint bolts, moving it out of the way , then allowing all the old stuff to drain out then refilling it with fresh grease

or is it better to leave them alone , with disturbing the cv joint seal

After a successful week long holiday with the D2 developing no new faults, i went out before the rain this morning to try and do a couple of little jobs.

First one was to look at the boot door lock - it locks on the central locking, but doesnt unlock. After getting the boot lining off (does the Subwoofer REALLY need that many screws?!) I tried all the obvious tricks (e.g. copious amounts of WD40, checking the connections, etc). Still no joy so for now i've disconnected the electrical connection so the boot is manual locking only. Time to spend some more money!

Next was to unwrap the handheld CB radio that arrived in the post while i was away (see separate post). It was a cheap EBAY purchase, and gives another method of communicating when out laning rather than relying on PMR446. Digging in the garage there are two magmount CB aerials, and the plan was to be able to put one on the roof, then route the cable in to the car and connect it to the handheld, but both have some antiquated screw-connectors on, whereas the handheld has a BNC connector. A bit more money spent on amazon!

Another job was to look at the wiring for the dashcam. There is a spare ignition live above the windscreen which would have fed the auto dimming mirror if fitted, but of course its 12v and the dash cam requires 5v. There isn't space to easily pop in a 12v socket and use the USB feed, but there is space to hide one of these little adaptors - Amazon product - a bit more amazon ordering and hopefully within the next few days that'll be another cable that doesnt run down the windscreen! Annoyingly i fitted one in a previous car to feed the satnav (rather than having cables running from the 12v socket on the dashboard) but didnt bother to remove it when I sold the car.

Also noticed that some beeper has nicked one of the wheel nuts... so time to order one of those as well!

I didn't drain anything out. The grease will gradually come out over time, anyway, (as per land rovers in general, lol), and any water that happened to find a way in would find a way out before the grease.
 
Replaced all the glow plugs today, as during that cold snap earlier this week the old girl struggled a bit with the bio diesel and has been a bit smoky on start up.
 
Not so much today but for April. First fitted a new aerial, whilst fitting the inner wing decided to give up the ghost. New wing fitted. Took car (disco 1) Drove car to town, in car park an almighty clunk, on investigating found a large amount of play in front wheel (vertical) thought it was the wheel bearing, changed it, play still there it was the top swivel joint, bolts on axle flange heavily corroded, inserted the new swivel pins and bearings without removing the hub. Forgot the initial problem was the demise of the cv joint. Happy days, can't complain about mat'l costs less than £150 including aerial.
Spoke to my friend (Mechanic) think I'll change to a BMW. His reply "BMW parts are a lot dearer than LR". Disco out today working well, stick with it unless government change tax cost.

So I feel a visit to a tyre fitters coming on tomorrow then a bit of ebaying action :D

love the tyres and bet ur pleased with the price , what size are they plse , look massive

i got some cooper at/3 fitted on mine , there only 235/70/17

can't detect much road noise out of them if i'm honest

thks, only done around 1,000 miles on mine and been pleased so far

will be good when i can to see how they perform off road , got to be better than the junk tyres i had on there before , were a mixture of cheap road ones

been so tempted to fill in the writing with a white pen , lol
 
I'd be wary of the terrain you drive them on, I was on the wayfarer last weekend and someone had a rock pop a good 2" straight through the sidewall on one of those

don't worry wouldn't go on anything extreme , maybe a grass car park, lol
 
Went for a long drive in d3, parted with some readies, came back in a d4, photos when I get time
