I finished putting the new caliper on today, had to paint it as I'd already done the carrier, so tomorrow I'll start the other side.

Hi Mike, did your Mintex pads come with pad backing plates/shims & new sliding pin bolts ?
Sorry forget that I've just noticed it was the rears you did:oops:.
My rears didn't come with anything but the fronts did (shims & bolts).

Hi Andy,

Mmm maybe lol, if they did I didn’t use any of them.

just copper grease in the right places that’s all

Where did you get the snorkel from? Which model? I’ve been looking at fitting one but can’t make up my mind on which one to get

this is the one I fitted, was a little worried after reading some horror stories on these cheaper versions vs the safari.

The template provided was 90% correct, I had to adjust it slightly (small fixing hole positions)

but overall I am really pleased I only spent £100 vs the price of a safari one.

Cheers will take a look - I’m not sure I can stretch to a safari one at the moment either!
Silly q perhaps but assume this still goes via the air box filter - I put a foam cell filter in there some time ago and thats been working nicely so be good if it works with that still

I made a start on the o/s caliper/disc replacement today to find the caliper carrier bolts like this (see pic). To my amazement they both come out after I wire brushed them & tapped the 19mm socket on, so I suspect they may have not been done up to the 129 lb ft they should have been! Also a pic of the clean up & paint I've got to look forward to, too match the other side.

Transfer box, and gearbox finally off. Gearbox is totally shagged. Input shaft sloppy as a prossys snatch.... you can wobble it about, and hear the bearing races. Full of emulsified water again. Can't find how it's getting in. The breathers tight, and not blocked.

Clutch plate looks fine, and has possibly been replaced in last 30k miles. Dmf is suspect so that's being swapped out and a new LOF clutch is going in...

Had as right set back on my modular wheels however! purchased a set of 16 x 8 discovery 2 rims secondhand on ebay and they were listed with a -32mm offset, had all the tyres fitted and went to fit after the lift kit etc put on, and the stick out 4 inches past the current stock arches!!! the offset is more like -90mm!!!! was totally baffled and compared with my friends -32mm rims and sure enough the offset is like double! Thankfully have managed to source another set of new 16 x 8 -35 rims from Beartown Tyres, Julian there is a true legend! So there is a set of crazy offset wheels going if anyone wants!

-35 are worse! Standard rims are +57 so to go from them to -35 is 92mm extra poke... nearly 4 inch. But the tyres will bulb off the rim making it look even more!

I do want them to stick out - just not 4 inches beyond the arches! obviously i am fitting a two inch extended arches all round too.
