Went for a drive up to Lancashire, and bought this:-

Now the observant among you will notice it's the same model and spec. as my current RR (which my eldest son is buying from me) - any guesses as to what & why I'm changing cars?
 
I did have a FL2 commercial a few years ago and it was very useful & reliable, but no - It's a 5.0l SC... I've decided to take my own advice and switch to a petrol as I'm only doing about 12 miles a day in the week and it's slowly strangling the 4.4SDV8... My eldest (and his parasite of a Mrs.) do about 30 miles a day and some good runs at the weekends, so it just makes sense, especially with all the work I've done to it in getting it to a good standard.
The SC is a 2016 MY with only 48k on it, it's got the later chain guides and tensioners so chain rattle & failure won't be an issue and I'll be changing the coolant crossover pipe and a couple of other 'usual suspects' for aftermarket aluminium ones, rather than the burst-prone welded plastic versions.
One other thing I did notice that was only available to AB spec. buyers is this:-

22 mpg brim to brim.. dash said 21.5 so that's pretty close again! Much rather have slightly under vs massively over reading
Car didn't miss a beat, although just once and for only about a second it behaved like i took my foot off the accelerator. Most odd but it was fine for the rest of the journey

See i do sit and wonder if id enjoy a 4.4tdv8 compared too the supercharged, they seem similar cost wise to run on that figures
 
Passed MoT on Friday :)

Advisories for corrosion on coil springs & top of chassis rails, slight seepage from power steering pump, and slight wear on both front disc brakes. All manageable!

Will have its 40th birthday next June so hopefully tax exempt (and MoT exempt but will still do them) from April 2026.
 
Took the one in the background to the station to collect the buyer for the one in the foreground. Guy came from Skipton to Maidstone and is currently heading back "oop norf". Hope it does as well for him as it has done me. Glad to know it's going to get used again and also happy to have a few pennies in the account to throw at the 4.4 now. Oh boy, here we go again

Pleased to report that the LR fleet is down to just 2.5 cars now.

Got the P38 up on the jacks to start replacing air bags.. front OS wheel has a significant knock/play on the side to side. So that’s a wheel bearing/hub assembly need doing.

Just phoned the local garage who know the car, £380+VAT. Throw an MOT on top as well, there’s a healthy £500 as well as the suspension 🤦‍♂️

We get up to Skipton quite often, If I see it around, I'll just say to the driver "I know where you got that" tap the side of my nose, and walk off....
 
Check the ball joints top and bottom of each hub these are definitely more likely to fail than the bearings. Bearing give a top to bottom movement like the ball joints. Side to side is normally steering bars and their ball joints👍
It’s definitely side to side play. I’ll give it another look then to see. Reason I suspected bearing is I have no record of them being changed in the paperwork I have and it’s just ticked over 170k miles, I also got an occasional drone around the 60mph mark which appeared intermittently.

Lucky a garage will take it on. The local garage said no, and a mates mate who works for JRL said £800 on the drive if it goes well. I just did it myself, dead easy.

You can get a whole hub for about £200, or could. Place in Birmingham used to do them with a Timken bearing - search MrGorsky posts.

I suspect it is more likely the ball-joints than the bearing or hub though.
