Check for oil at the base of the coil pack, à leak from the surrounding seal will cause a misfire also🤔
There wasn't any on the rubber sleeve that goes onto the plug so think its just a dead coil,
Got a pair coming today as the front 6 are black and rear 2 are grey and old looking,
Can't wait to get them in tonight and hopefully back in it, iv had a mini 1.6d the past couple of days and while its and extremely fun little car its a bit slow and a bit missing heated seats and wheel 🤣🤣

Broke him. Started 3rd attempt, ran fine all the way to to the garage for fuel pump and MOT.
Left him there and fortunately stayed reasonably local with Christmas shopping.
Call from garage, not starting and alarm going potty.
Thought it'd be just interference with the key but usual tricks didn't sort it.
Went down, spent 45 minutes checking fuses, relays, fob battery, etc.
They were able to check, good fob signal.
No central locking by fob or blade, EKA not recognising key turns, nanocom not able to talk to ECU.
Guessing this is door lock microswitches or power/ outstation issue from the look of it?
Any one recognise or know the likely fix?

Low battery voltage would be my first guess but you ay you have checked the battery.

Been on trickle charger for a couple of weeks, was trying to use a bit more fuel for them on the run there ready for the fuel pump so kept him in 3rd for the 20odd miles. Battery only 18 months old, high output alternator less than a year.

It is as if the locking and immobilizer are totally disconnected.

But have you checked the voltage at the battery terminals?

Deaded dead?
Details…🤔
Dead deaded. Wife was coming home from work this morning and white smoke started leaving a peasouper of a fog behind her, she pulled off the road and temp gauge shot up to I'm on fire. She stopped it and saw coolant coming from expansion bottle. She waited till I got there with some water, I topped it up with about 5 liters and started her up, still white smoke, sounded like it was missing so stopped the engine and called recovery. By the time the recovery turned up it wouldn't even turn over, so my guess is its hydrolocked. Either head is cracked or head gasket is gone. The engine has done 222434mile so if I can find a cheap low milage one then I'll swop it. It not she's a gonner. At that milage it won't be cost effective to rebuild the engine.

Cracked head is the most likely. Heads can be found on Ebay, a while ago I saw new M51 heads going for £800.

Turner Engineering do M51 heads. Made by a Spanish firm whose name escapes me at the moment.

Overheated on the way home. Left it to cool down and I'll see what is what tomorrow.

Also, I think the clutch was slipping a little at high torque over thre weekend. That was only replaced 5 years ago with a Valeo one. Could be some oil contamination but I did the rear seal 5 years ago while I had the clutch out. I'm fed up of taking that box out (3 times in 10 years) and seriously considering buying something Jap!

I’ve seen 2nd hand pressure tested heads for few hundred but not for a while. They are covered in dye though. Im not sure that’s dead deaded, hydrolocked could be an issue if you have pistons hanging out the sides?
From what we know so far is possible it may only be gasket in which case - take off, clean, bolt it back on and job jobbed forra nuther 100k 😉
swop may be the best solution, depends how much further inspection you are willing to do. Head off ain’t too bad unless your manifold bolts round off or some nonsense. but it is cold out there currently.

Could it be that damned brass bush? Should I start saving my midget gems incase you lose your sh*t one night and go jap?

I replaced that bush - both sides. And the DMF. Almost everything is new apart from the fork itself.

The wife revs the engine like crazy when she's reversing. Plus we live on a hill up a single-track lane and she goes crazy on the clutch on the hill start so it is feasible she's burnt it out. To be fair to her that first gear is way too high for the power output from that M51, although I can see why it is like that when you try first in low range.

I've got a spare Rangie out the back which is an auto so I could convert it. Or maybe I'll have a word with Clutchfix and see if they can do me a bespoke heavy duty friction plate. I've used them before and they're very good.

Or maybe I'll flog the lot and get a Land Cruiser Colorado.

Easy enough to pull the head. Then you'll know what you're playing with.

My son`s back now from working in India so he wants his sport back, i should have ragged it more there is far more fuel in it now than he left (range 3 miles) might just have to borrow it again, mind you i have found a few faults with it i think the front shocks are lacking its a bit bouncy on the front, there is a clonk on the front brakes the heater does not work that well which will be the electric valve on the pipes and only the passenger side of the heated screen works apart from that its great to drive, auto is great in traffic.
