I had a spare outstation, so chucked that on. Still no dice.
Weight up your options buddy.
1. Is the car really worth messing with now??
2. Will it pass its next M.O.T with ease??
3. Cost of road tax these days??
4. Cost of fuel these days?/
5. Cost of insurance these days??

Do you value your sanity?? I did and in the end i binned off any hope and desire to own a P38. Best move i ever made mate. There are plenty of other decent vehicles out there you can buy and enjoy and use as a reliable daily. You could always trade your P38 in against anything that comes along or scrap it like you mentioned.

Like a Classic! ;):D

In case your spare out station is duff you could swap the one from the passenger door that works.
My mates P38 has the exact same issue as @Bix , I swopped the outstations around and , same, still a dead door, the suspected outstation worked fine on the other good door.
Googling about it seems the purple/black wire in the long outstation plug is power in. I've yet to investigate this for him as it's nearly always in constant use or its raining/cold. He's currently running around with no door cards, A post panels, becm panel and under dash panels. I'm no expert but with help off here and semi educated poking with a DMM you and I should be able to sort it @Bix .

I’m still coming to terms with @domino ‘s decision. £1500! I’ve seen far worse up for £2G lucky he got any fingers left

Yeah, in hindsight, it should have been another 1k on top. Possibly more.

Also gave a pile of spares and a *full* (and I mean everything) unopened set of liquids/fluids unopened to do a service (engine, diff, gearbox oil, etc).

If it's any help, I got a set of leads for my DMM from Amazon, they came with several different tips that are interchangeable really fine needle points, ideal for testing wires and, croc clips,
very useful.

I'll give that a go next.

It was a purple/black I found a small repair on. Assuming it was a P/O. Unfortunately didn't fix anything splicing in a strong repair.

Although I mentioned scrapping it in, a P38 was a dream car from my youth. I've had mine for 10 years, the biggest issue with her is she is my daily driver. Really P38s need to be a weekend toy... or at least have a spare reliable second car in the stable. Sure MoT season is stressful, but that's the charm.

Wish i had the space for a proper/real car!!

Got the old 3 amigos accompanied with the speedo needle dropping when the fault appears so I'm assuming it is one of the ABS sensors ;)

WOT! Heretic alert!

Had the whole loom out the door because I couldn't get my fat hands in the gap between A post and door. Couldn't find **** beyond a nick in the purple/black wire which had been repaired over 10 years ago (not done in my ownership). Although my DVM was being a bastard, so stopped for food. My concern is the break is on the vehicle side somewhere, at which point she is for the scrapper.
You'll find the issue, I chased wiring faults with mine and stripped all the loom apart looking for any broken wires.. ;)
Took the entire interior out too ;)

Scrapping it is not the way Bix ;)

You could buy something else and end up with a whole heap of other issues, at the end of the day every problem has a solution, if people gave up that easily then there wouldn't be any P38's on the road or indeed any slightly complex vehicles. ;)

It doesn't have to be an older vehicle, new cars aren't always the driving appliances they are made it to be, just harder to fix without dealer software and tools

Yep by todays standards the P38 is old hat, a modern is a right PITA to diagnose or even do simple fixes.
Did a 7 series bimmer that had to have the new battery coded to it!!

Doing some research.. it seems the only cost viable route is to buy a top hat block and swap all the bits off mine myself.. problem is i don't have the space to do it.
Other options eg getting someone else to do it seem to be too expensive, especially as my motor isn't a pristine example to start with
You can get a complete Thor engine for a few hundred quid and fit it quite easily, you'd be surprised how easy they are to pull out. that being the only pull out I do "fnarrr" ;)

Might even snag a nice 4.6 to drop in there, straight swap with some info changed via nanocom to the BECM.

Thought the 4.6 has a different gearbox?

I've gone down the replacement engine route once, not a top hat one...
