Continuity and the ability to pass power are not always the same thing, probing with a test lamp is needed. If everything else on the dash works it's unlikely to be a bad earth, so it's the power feed that needs looking at. Remind me, is this a P38? If so I'll have a look at RAVE for likely failure points.
Yes this is a P38 and RAVE has been my bible through all of this. Re the test lamp, I forgot to say I did that as well. There are likely other steps I took that I have forgotten now. I've only been working to fix this problem for the last 6 months on & off ..

I'll have a look later today and see if I can see anything worth looking at.

Is the dash illumination a fail? In a well lit garage how many testers would notice? Usually they're looking for warning lights.

anyone know where I can rent/borrow/etc a car trailer/transporter from in the north shrops/cheshire area? rented trailers in the past no issue!! now it seems nobody does it :(

Please can you confirm the model year?

I have been told by the bloke who was helping me with the soldering, he also does MOTs, that yes it would fail. As for warning lights hahahahaha remove the ABS fuse and all of a sudden there isn't a warning light. His words. hahaha

OK thanks, does the message centre display operate albeit with no back light?

Yep. Also the lights along the dash for everything except ride height don't work and the same with the gear lever surround. These all stopped working at the exact same time.

Surprisingly few warning / tell tale lights are mandatory for the MOT:
  • headlamp main beam
  • direction indicators
  • hazard warning lamps
  • rear fog lamps
If your audible tell tale still works for indicators, you may be fine with a sympathetic tester.

dont covers rub and chafe the body/paintwork? especially now its windy season
Cheaper ones do, but better ones have a super soft inner layer that doesn't seem to. We've used a decent cover on an old Alfa (1975) for over a year after it became immobile on the drive and it's been fine :)

can you recommend a brand? or a seller?

You are saying the warning lights do not work? Does the clock light come on and the back light for the main light switch?
