Sorry, couldn't resist... :p

Not really a matter of opinion running temp of the V8 is cooler in the P38's case, the V8 in the P38 vs the M51 the diesel runs hotter in the bay at least... ;) :)

People also try to stuff the Gems rad in the Diesel as it is bigger to help keep it cool especially in hot climates;)
Think your off base 'Enery I believe the Gems rad mod is for water circulation, only JLR could come up with a little baffle to divert water in the diesel rad.;)

Do you think they are the same as P38 seats, I know they are made in the same place, reckon they might fit? Covers I mean

Wouldn't mind your Shadow, I have one although it is a 1977 S1 and it needs a full rebuild.
looked alright when my Granddad bought her though 25 or so years ago! Mine has been totally pampered and i have spent £10000 on it this year alone at a RR specialists in Newbury. PM me if you wanna chat further about mine.

What you done to yours?

I never wanted you do say I was "right" does nothing for me, just relaying info.. ;)

The P38 is a simple car to maintain compared to @Enthusiastman own 2 beautiful old Classics one which isn't known for it's simplicity.

The condition of P38's vary, you can get a minter of a V8 P38 "don't know why you're hung up on connectors and Modulators" or a Minter of a Diesel compared to a right POS..

Brittle connectors and Brake modulator issues aren't a worry, the former will happen to any car regardless of the engine, but to be fair i've never had connector issues even on 40+yr old cars and the latter won't apply especially since he is looking at 98 and newer cars.

I'm sure the he'll find a good'un..
I have already found one buddy albeit i am just holding back for now until i have 100% resolved the issue with my P38 Westminster TD going back to the dealer and him refunding me my monies. UPDATE too on that score : The dealer who sold me the car has had a complete change of heart over night and is now wanting to be my best friend again. LOL. He has already paid me back another £1000 tonight and promices to pay the rest back to me over the weekend. He has also said it will only be fair and for for him to give me an additional sum to compensate me for all the new bits i bought for it too and for all the new bits i had to leave on the car seeing as i had binned the old rotton bits so this for me is good news and i hope he lives true to his word. Looks like he listened to me last night and took the advice i gave him instead of it all going horribly wrong FOR HIM and his reputation as a trader.

So for now i shall just take stock of it all. I will indeed be keeping well away from all 2.5 TD models from now on. Once bitten and never again there. I shall also take extreame caution with this other one i have seen at a reputable dealers up north. I plan to ring him tomorow and have a very long chat with him about all things P38 v8 petrol and his is a 4.6 v8 BTW.

Cheers

Hi, Its a 2002 model Vogue SE in Red and only 74800 miles from new with a full main dealer and specialists service history. It has had 6 owners from new and 2 private plates assigned to her and always garaged. Last owner had her 11 years i am told and totally pampered the car. There is 44 pictures on the www and she looks stunning in all respects. She is pricey albeit there could be a deal to be done. Not rushing in to anything just yet either. Its a 4.6 V8 too.

Is the 12 months road tax band the same across the whole P38 range = £330 ?????

Ah I know the Alveston red one you're talking about, being a VSE it is quite a rare beast, a far more desirable beast than the Westminster ;)

The Tax is around £346 atleast thats what I pay for my 2001 Vogue..

Mine had 6 owners, not very pampered though ;)

check
Wet carpet
EAS
Engine
and all the usual areas!

Good luck!

Who was that then??? i ALWAYS HPi all cars i buy in advance myself too buddy.

Sorry was summoned by SWMBO, back now.

The D2 itself was fine and didn't give me too many problems but I ended up selling it and getting the L322. I checked the mot history the other day and still nothing about rust, maybe I should have kept it. Nah maybe not :D

Finished my epic refurb (in terms of the time it took) of the top tailgate seal and holder, so some photos, just cos we all likes photos.

Treated light rust with Fertan.

The seal carrier is pop riveted to the frame, problem for me was that my riveter was too big, solved that by just using a small nut as an extension for the nose of riveter.

Seal carrier painted and fixed.

Seal fitted with help from the doris to slide it on from the end.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, between times of waiting for paint to dry I have been playing with my wood lathe, making some newel caps to finally finish the flight of stairs I made about 10 years ago. I am actually quite pleased with my efforts so am including photos of them as well, after 1st coat of varnish.

The acorn and half acorn are oak, the mushroom is old oak with an acacia stem, the toadstool has an acacia top with oak stem. All around 4" dia.

Hey @frog hopper is that your 90s plate on the wall? It needs an MOT;) is it a V8?
Or is it a previous love/hate relationship:eek:

J
Hi mate, yes it's the old plate off the 90, 200Tdi, she is now on frog plates, exported here 10 years ago (ish). Has been back in the UK with it, though on the froggy plates.

Photo taken before fitting an old Superwinch I just happened to have kicking about.

Thats why I wondered. V5 says V8 how did you go with the registration in frogland?
Surly they where fussy enough to pickup on that?
Sorry just being nosey:)
I had to get a “specialist letter” cos my bike had a 2 instead of a Z ;) in the engine number on paperwork.

Ooops, sorry, my mistake. That was a V8 Disco I brought over to France in 2006. The French registration was a bit of an arse as it was originally an export model to Oman, then bought an shipped to the UK, I then bought it to bring to France as it was LHD. All very complicated as you can imagine, I ended up getting it matriculated by a garage owner friend of a friend whose secretary sorted all the paperwork for me. It was particularly difficult as I had got it converted to LPG just before we came over here, fortunately by a reputable engineer, complete with all paperwork. I had to have it inspected by a sub-contracter/garage for the Ministry of Mines !! the LPG system being an explosion risk!! Because I had all relevant paperwork/certificates they had to issue the safety compliance documentation to get it into the French system, even though the actual methods of fitting the LPG system was different to their way of doing it. Talk about feckin burocracy gon mad.

That is great. He'll have a second hand lump in it in no time anyway.

If you want a future classic then I would go 4.6.

Ease of maintenance I still say diesel. Henry disagrees but head gaskets are a service item on the v8 and the crank seals. Diesel you're looking at FIP and possibly chains on high rollers. V8 is nicer to drive, end of. After that it is luck of the draw.

And @Henry_b the diesel might burn hotter but it has less cylinders and a lot more space around the engine. The v8 out the back definitely gers hotter under the bonnet than the diesel out the front (or the other diesel out the back).
