Not going any further with it now guys. I have had contact from the dealer tonight who has been ignoring me albeit i now feel he knows that hye is stuffed. He tried the mouthy abusive touch again which got him nowhere and now he has calmed down a bit he has agreed to refund me the rest of the money i paid him for the car and once he does i will let him collect it from the garage who have kindly agreed for me to leave it there FREE of charge. I will just have to pay them for the initial investigation time this morning where they found the engine to be mullered.

I will hopefully go over there tomorow and start to remove the new extra's i fitted to the car and bring them home and sell them all on ebay and then re-evaluate my situation of IF i need another car or not. I dont really as i have 2 classics and a scooter and my missus has her car on the driveway too which i can use albeit i have always wanted a RR P38.

Im gutted by it all and it has made me ill. If i do decide to buy another P38 it will indeed be looked in to more deeply.
Well your lucky, its certainly been a learning curve. You now know that a stack of paperwork isn't worth a dam, and don't throw money trying to fix a fault until you know what it is.Hope your luckier next time. Don't be a stranger.;)

I really thought it would be the same case for me and a P38 albeit sadly it just turned in to the worse nightmare i have ever had when it comes to owning cars and trust me i have owned a lot over the years.

My other classics in my " mancave " are a concours condition 1973 Rover P5B saloon. I am the 3rd owner from new and it has a genuine 63k miles on the clock with one of the best history files you will ever see and read. Its a total one off minter.

I also own an equally mint 1978 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow 2 which again is as near to concours as you will get and only 46k miles on the clock from new.

I also own a MINT fully restored Red 1983 Vespa 50cc Special scooter in the full MOD/Quadrophenia guise with only 150 miles on the clock since its nut and bolt restoration completed last year.
My headmaster had a new Rover P5B saloon, I remember riding in it, when the school went camping, great car it was

At least you're getting a refund. Nasty but could be worse. Any 20 year old car for sale is going to need work, regardless of the price or previous invoices. It is going to be a hit for the dealer too so can understand why he's also upset.

Which dealer? Might be worth a look to see if fixable.

Once i get my money back in my bank guys i will let you know who he is and where.
My plans today are to ring the repair garage and ask him if i can pop over with my tools and remove as many of my new bits as i can and take my personal items out the inside and bring all that home with me. The car is a NON runner now so not easy to move it around. Looks like the selling dealer will be recovering it from the garage once he has refunded me as there is no way i can get it back on to my driveway and under my carport now. TBH i dont want it back here anyway as it will just upset me more looking at it.

Make sure you get the bits before the other dealer comes to fetch the forecourt ornament ...

So we have not managed to scare you away:D
dam we must be slacking:p
I am only a little bit envious of you garage set up:( very nice indeed.
Thank you. I had it specially built 5 years ago for me. Fully equipped. Today i have been over to the garage and removed all my new bits off my P38 so she is now back to as i bought her albeit cleaner and better and i have just emailed the selling dealer and told him i want it collected ASAP and my money put back in my account ASAP before i let him have the car.

I will most likely look again for another late 02 example and would value all advice from owners about what is best model to go for. I may just have a V8 next 4.6 and be done with it.
Cheers guys.

Personally I'd stick to diesel.;)

At least with a Diesel you won't have any Rover v8 issues and you'll have fewer Lucas issues.

Sure- you're now facing an engine problem but don't think a v8 will be an improvement. It might just be the opposite
