Finally took apart my rear axle to try to track down this annoying click. Changed out the axle seal, replaced the brake pads and rotor. Cleaned up the nearly seized caliper slides. Also cleaned the axle splines and wheel hub and applied loctite 648. Just waiting for 24hrs before I take it for a test drive.

Mine does the clicking/clocking noise from forward to reverse as well!! That may just be on the cards... thinking-face_1f914.png

That will be it. Did mine a few years ago and been fine since.
Cheers mate, I know you did mention it a while ago and I didn't really understand exactly where you meant and not wanting to look daft asking.
That makes me feel better after thinking it was replacement time for certain parts in the axle. Well, it could still be that after 220.000mls. Better still. :D;)

You still look daft.:eek::D

Never noticed before but there's an inspection hole near the bottom of the flywheel housing, facing forward. Shouldn't this be blocked off normally?

Difficult to get a pic, but this is taken from the front axle. You can see the flywheel inside, just. More obvious when it's running

Boing!! Of course. :confused:
Is it for a timing pin/part during engine setup? They have a similar style for the s type jag on the tdv6. :)
