I was warned about B******t callipers having a square edge that would catch my wheel weights (silly size wheels have a few)

If you have an early P38 with 7J not 8J 16" rims then there is almost no clearance inside the rim and the Britpart caliper can knock balancing weights off. The Lucas caliper is sloped and rounded so doesn't.

My old Montego, (yes you read it right) could fit Maestro wheels, in the days when we were buying second hand tyres from a scrappers. (Montegos had some sort of strange metric tyre sizes and were hideously expensive, nearly £30 a piece.!!).. But then had to fit 1/2 washers on the studs to keep the wheels off the calipers. Apart from that, they were the same size in every other way...(?!). Oh happy days..
I remember some firms pushing metric tyres, I think BMW tried it too. Hideous idea.

Nice to see even with a generation or so difference, nothing has changed in the world of automacars.

What colour was it? o_O
They only came in beige.

I have Lucas ones and they are tight with two layers of weights even though I think I have 8J

Yes you have to with gigantic nobbly tires like insas. One always ends up with 2 layers on one wheel. I’ve lost couple taking the wheel off to do the brakes so 50mph is now very annoying. Can be difficult find a tyre shop willing to do them.

Have you not seen those plastic balls that you throw inside the tyre? They a supposed to be good and work well with big tyres.
I remember one of the fender guys asking and I believe he tried them with good results.

Heard they are okay on motorbikes? Noise not an issue with silly treads. If I can afford this P38 much longer I will be changing down to 30” ATs off a mates Disco as I don’t go in deep mud on a regular basis anymore :(

never tried them, knew someone who did and he gave up, more hassle than they were worth

Ok, heard you mention your MR2. Renault 11, Is there a reason behind holding on to that? Can’t be many of them left now even in France.
Got rid of our sports car when we moved here, the potholes would have killed the car and our backs:eek:

The Renault 11 belongs to my wife, she doesn't want to sell it. There are several R11's running around locally. The R11 is one of those cars that manufacturers occasionally make by accident that seem to last forever:)

My neighbour who helps me out is secretary of local MR2 club his is in mint condition for an old one, won one or two shows with it. Luv to wind him up by parking the MX5 at the side for photos. His club members get a bit touchy:D:p

Mines pretty mint, I have owned it from new, the only one I have ever seen that has no rust. A pal with a Honda dealership did a full anti rust treatment on it in return for sorting computer problems.

Like that , mind you red is my favourite colour. Neighbours is all white. You could eat your dinner out of engine compartment its that clean. He keeps it garaged and polishes it several times a week without fail. Sometimes wonder if he loves it more than his missis?
