It turns out the new RR is ruined. It failed the Top Gear test.

Split tailgate is a bonus when you have dogs in the back, the new model looks like it has a lower level tailgate though which should help with reach.

Why is it a bonus? Dogs got in and out of my Volvo and my Pajero with no trouble. It's a pain in the but having to climb onto the tailgate to reach small items at the back of the boot. It's also a pain having to unload all the luggage to get at the spare then reach over the fecking tailgate to heave the thing out:mad:. Give me a rear door with an external spare or an underslung one every time.
 
No trapped paws when you shut the tailgate....especially with 2 mad & excited springers. The lower tailgate is also good for me hoyking large TV cabinets about as i can slide them onto the tailgate before lifting off. I can see the issue with spare but i dont have that problem, mine is replaced with a huge tank of explosive gas:D

Ah, untrained dogs. Mine got in and sat quietly on command while I shut the door.:D
 
I must admit I prefer the split tailgate too. When loading PA equipment etc I can often get right up to doors and keep stuff dry. With the Disco, the hinged door left a 3' gap where you got soaked if it was raining! Ditto the gas tank/spare wheel too - mine stays at home except on long trips. The first Classic I had used to have a hinged number plate too so you could stick oversized items like furniture sticking out - seems that's frowned upon now... :D
 
Fitted new drag link and tie bar just the radial arm bushes left and best get tracking rechecked , I've undone all the bolts so I know nothing's siezed ya!
What odd sizes 18 mm nut and a15 mm bolt ....
I'm doing the rest Thursday.

The big tailgate on my Volvo was much better at keeping things dry, I could actually get it through the door to load un load in the dry:D

I would never run in France with no spare, I could be 50 miles from anywhere with no mobile signal so a flat without a spare would be a disaster.
OK in the UK I guess as you have the RAC/AA to rescue you, nothing like that here.
 
Thoroughly cleaned the interior and made the seat belts retract. Found the source of some of the many rattles, the kick plates on the cills were all loose.
 
I must admit i never carry the spare here but will need to squeeze it in when we next go to France if we take the Rangie.
 
Cut out the rusted through box section on my sidesteps
All ground back and rust free ready to weld some new pieces in tomoz then off to leeds galvanising for galv and powder coat :) (cheers mum) should out last the car then :)

I thought there was some type of breakdown cover included in your insurance over there? Although the fees to have someone attend on the motorway if you're not covered by AA or some such is scary! :eek:

Yes, Europe wide breakdown cover is included in my insurance, it does not seem to include getting fixed by the side of the road, they just use a recovery company to low loader the vehicle to the nearest dealership. Even that is no help when there is no mobile signal and you have a 50Km walk to civilisation.
