Don't you need to flatten the colour again before you lacquer? Last time I sprayed metallic was 10 years ago but i remember it looking terrible and completely the wrong colour until the lacquer went on then it all looked perfect
Yep as i said all coats should be sanded smooth beofre the next, if you don't the finish is yuck..

It'll look like crap until the lacquer is applied, it's what gives the "shine" :)

Wetsand it down to the plastic.

1 Use plastic prep primer

2 High build primer

3 sand smooth

4 Colour 3 coats sanding inbetween, be careful to apply thin coats to avoid too much orange peel if you supply your code i can tell you what colour, unless you know it already of course

5 Lacquer 2-4 coats

6 After 24hrs wetsand the lacquer smooth

7 After then using a polish of your choice remove the sanding marks..

8 seal/wax

etc etc
Cheers for this. I did the decor panels on the sides of the rear bumpers on my last one, not bad finish in the end. Colour can be got from info panel on the slam panel. Mine was Oford Blue, this one is now Oslo. But mixers prefer the 3 digit codes.

It’s always around the corner although,

Does it drive okay ??

If yes it’s probably fine with just a flush for while. They lose oomph gradually if neglected but are very resilient if cared for - your drop was clear particle wise

Could always get one to rebuild while you wait for this one to pop? It’s just the offroading nerves of the coming up event along with your green oval syndrome, you’ll be fine ;)

Offroading hammers everything! Same as racing or anything that takes a car near its limit. Fun though!

Slamming an auto into gear whilst moving is the most common thing i've seen offroad and prolly the worst thing you can do, I have done it myself in me P38 when slipping down hill i just rammed it into R and floored it..

whilst going forward at 7-8mph..

Didn't do it any good but i knew it was worn anyway, and i have a 065 4hp24 ready on my bench to rebuild so who cares ;)

I do have another box inm scrapper, I would like to know where to get all the internals from though?. It drives well and a little torque shudder but only when engaging.
She's going to Spain on Thursday so i may drop the oil again before we go on the day out...

Drop some Lucas tranny fix in 'er

Might also be worth adding some DR tranny shudder fix too ;)

^^^^ good shout if your not dropping it again in a week or so.
Nearly all the V8 P38s I’ve seen off-road have autos, they seem to do okay. Mine was first I ever saw with manual box, I thought it was custom bodge job at first

Tried to replace my starter motor. Wrong bl**dy one sent. Should have been a black Bosch one off a 2.5 DT but what I have received looks like a silver Lucas one off a v8. Grrrrrr.

I don't know if I lucked out, but when I got my starter the guide key on the starter was tighter than the peg on the block. I had to drill it out (in my case use a screw driver and slowly graunch out the alloy).

It was silver too, much smaller than the LR unit, but was the BMW item for the M51.

It’s only the solenoid you need if that’s same?

Probably better sending back and getting new unit. Think I mentioned mine was a 6series scrapper job works/fits

I like the auto box off road, it's almost like having a hand on the handbrake and a biting clutch on tap!!

It’s the chip/power box with the doozle will bring GBox alive.
Don’t make much difference to drive on manual but autos need it to wake them up a bit with the ratios

I have one lined up as we speak. My auto box is funny on the upchange on 2-3rd, Lucas tranny fix worked 100% for 3 years but it's returned now. Doesn't do it on manual over ride though
