You'll definitely need the tool to hold the fuel pump and lock the flywheel. Then there's the adapter and dial guage to set the pump. And socket for the injector pipes as they have to come off. Think that's it. Have you got a beavertail or suitable trailer?

No, no trailer. I have all the locking tools, dial gauge and stuff. Also have replacement o rings for the FIP. Why is it always that lower o ring you can't get to? :rolleyes:

No, no need. Follow RAVE. Inlet manifold and high pressure pipes off. Locking tools in place and unbolt. Trickiest part is getting the pump lift right. Best do it a few times to make sure you have it consistently in the right place. Oh, and FFS don't turn the engine backwards.

I read about what happens when you turn the engine backwards... I don't fancy that

INLET manifold gaskets x6

No need to take head off but you may need to take inlet off to get at pipes and FIP easier. If you have plastic manifold you may get away with it

Pre EGR alloy inlet gasket is - stc2203
With EGR plastic inlet is - stc4187

Looks like it’s had the plate rammed in there hard. All I’ve heard about solid flywheels on a P38 are negative opinions. How different do you find it??

On the Transit, I need to change down a little earlier or there is some vibration at very low revs, otherwise it's fine:D
On Transit forums there is talk of crankshaft failures but I think that might come down to how people drive. some versions of the Defender with a similar engine have a solid flywheel as standard. I can't see the problem on the M51 as it's a six.
 
No problems with solid flywheel on my defenders, original lasted their entire lifetime. Dual mass is only to smooth it out I think, P38 is smooth enough I would have thought VCU or those rust asteroids on diff will sort any small vibration out
 
Clutch lever bushes replaced. Forgot replacement spiral pins so back to Land Rover for those tomorrow.
 
Fixed the drivers side air vent while stuck on the M61 waiting for them to re open it. Let’s see if I can find something else to fix. There must be something
