Hi Bix & All,

Sutton Bank, my neck of the woods..!! Respect for having the faith. Have you tried the assent of Garrowby Hill heading out East from York on the A166, it just keeps climbing and gets wide half way to let you attempt a suicidal overtake but The Beast delivers every time. You have to love that Supercharged V8.

As for the reliability question, we are sent into panic mode every time we hear the outside temperature warning ping, the kids immediately shout "Has the air ride failed again". I respond with "No panic it's only risk of black ice".....not good if your heading back down Garrowby Hill in the dark, there is an escape gravel trap though.

Off to bed now. Cheers, Tricky.
Not been up that hill in a while, first time I came across it I was in the works van, it was a 3rd gear screamer the whole way up as that little Berlingo just didn't have the poof to make it in 4th. I went back when I had the AMG, and she tore up it. Also had a punt while driving a MAN SV, which was, different. So far not taken the ol' bus up her yet, but I rarely have a need to use the A166 these days. I have got a nice 30ish mile route I will generally throw the old girl around every time I am back in Yorkshire. It is mostly traffic free, and the occasional traffic I come across is dealt with quickly enough. Plus there are various pubs along the way for refreshments and taking scenic photos.

Every beep, bang, or squeaks gets a panicked look from me. And I'll let you keep Garrowby Hill while covered in ice to yourself. I've had this bus on a icy hill before, and the electronics tried to kill me. No thanks.

Sadly asked the long haired colonel in Sevastopol if the beast still looked good on the axel stands that I have put it on for the next 9 months to protect the air bags and tyres put on over the winter sojourn as I am now back abroad.

Well today I have treated the RRC softdash to new cam belt, drive belt, drive belt tensioner and water pump.
I now have a happy Rover again

Developed a strange fault, if I am in traffic and crawling and do 1k rpm at a speed only just registering on the Speedo, the check engine light comes on. If my revs or speed are either side of that threshold then no fault.
Looks like I need to get her back on a computer to find out what is going on.

And here, came across a gas bottle transit pick up that had slid off into the ditch and got stuck, with help from another passer by we got him out

Finally started the job I have done in my head 100 times, stripped the offside front axle to fit new ball joints and drag link . I have had the parts for ages but i have not felt well enough to tackle it.All going ok so far stripped and removed old joints took 2hrs. I will clean and paint the bits in the morning (weather permitting) and strip the other side.

Managed to lock myself out of it with the keys in the ignition and the engine running. this was minutes after going to see a replacement vehicle. As it turned out it was a Sport so not for me. 10 minutes later I was in and back on the road.:D

now how many times have we mentioned not leaving the keys in the ignition:D:D:D
it did it to you on purpose as you were eyeing up its replacement :D:D:D:D

Took her for a little run out, now that we can get out and about again. Did have a little giggle at a 67 plate Discovery sport. I was behind him for a couple of miles on single lane, entered dual carriageway and he decided he was on a go slow, so I passed, without so much as a second glance. Few minutes later he comes tearing up the outside lane (stupid in itself due to the amount of surface water!) , only to then come back in to the left hand lane, in front of me and slow down again. Poor darling obviously has an inferiority complex and doesn't like being overtaken. :D

Probably right, they know what your thinking and when you have a few spare drinking vouchers. I only got out of the car to look at my mates fence that had blown down.

Fitted the battery and away it went, first turn of the key straight off - last started early November.

Can't be bad - of course the euphoria didn't last long - ABS lamp now on. Never had THAT before.:(

Have you driven it yet? Lamp should go out above 5mph.

Yes, I took it for a 3 mile drive, just round the block really, wanted to planish all the surface rust off the discs.

ABS remained on. Oh, and the joint gasket has gone between the down pipes and the centre box.

Great. But the engine was a lot quieter than I remembered it so it's not all bad.
