The P38 will lock with a door half closed on the latch but will open if the door is pushed fully closed. Happened to me, hitched up the tin tent with the engine running, door half closed and locked. Smashed the rear door quarter light to get in, later found that if I had pushed it fully closed that it unlocks. Had a phone call months later when a friend had the same problem, asked him if a door was half locked, he said yes. I said trust me push it closed, he did and it opened itself.

Another 'quirk' of the P38. So at least mine isn't losing it's marbles, just it's owner.

turned out ok for you in the end then. well put new discs and pads on all 4 wheels.. it took a while but got there in the end. feels great now

With the help of a mate we took all the gearbox and transfer box out to do the roll pins and change the clutch as well, silly not to while its apart, quite an easy job really I was expecting a lot worse
its now been triple rollpinned .

Rattle rattle centre console rattle rattle, are they all like that.
Removed rear screws, loosened front screws and slid console back, had to drill new holes at rear as not lined up anymore.
Plate might have been adjustable but never had a look.
Rattle has now gone, it looks a lot better with all the bits of card removed that were previously stopping rattle.

I used to reassemble dash/consoles with blue tack around the screw clips, they never rattle.;)

Well, I tried to replace my air-conditioning condenser. However, the Hella unit that arrived was deformed and doesn't look the same quality as the one that has come out. So, return the unit it is. Very disappointed and annoyed at the inconvenience. Look how ****ing un-square this thing is. The aircon fan holes are miles out. The box is OK so there's no way that went though any quality control. Might as well have gone sh!tpart!

Well that's interesting. I have just rung Hella. Very helpful and knowledgeable woman in their customer services department. The part number I have is genuine but she's never heard of Island-4x4, has never sent anything to their postcode and has no idea where they got the product. She also informs me that Hella have had only 2 items returned in the past 2 years due to defects or other reasons so would be very surprised if it was from them. So is it genuine? The item was manufactured in January 2014 so where has i been the past 2 years? Insurance job? Most odd.

I got one from Island last year that also was less than a good fit but did go on. Maybe it's from Hella in China. :D:D

Some of the items Island sell are of dubious origin as i've discovered recently. Is it definately a genuine Hella?

She said the code was genuine. The list price was about the same as Island too. Obviously a bit hard to tell without seeing it. But she said they never got it off them directly otherwise she'd have had them as customers.

Made in Thailand, apparently. Odd as she said they had 6 units in Germany at the moment but could get one over in a day or so for £108 + VAT.

Also, what spares do you carry with you?

220 000 or there abouts and i carry an In tank pump plus air compressor repair kit a couple of sensors air filters ,oil filters .brake pipes ,brake pads ,3 UJs ,schrader valves to blow up air suspension if it should fail serpentine belt second battery fitted and hopefully this time a swing away spare wheel carrier if i can get it finished in time. i also carry a comprehensive tool kit and I also fitted a HP24 box in place of the 22 . new tyres arrived so will get them fitted so i will have 255 60 18 instead of 255 55 18
have spare set of rims so i can revert to standard when ever like for MOT.

I found the R16 rims more forgiving on rough roads. I tend to use R16 in the winter and R18 in the summer when I do a bit more dual-carriageway work. Be interested how you get on with the 255/60s.

Spare wheel carrier definitely of interest. Didn't @996TURBO have something setup at one stage?
