Started it, pumped up the tyre looked under the dash to see if I knocked anything when fitting the fuel flap switch that caused the eas to throw its toys outta the pram. No such luck but now suspension has gone up and won't go down don't know what I did only swapped the relay again. Now I don't have the air bag fault it's evolved to eas fault :( datatreks CD and cable should be here soon and hopefully sort it
 
Went to get something out of the car, noticed the two new tailgate struts I had purchased sitting there and figured "how hard can they be". Turns out to be probably the easiest thing to change on a P38? I would say the air filter is more of a pain than fitting those little gas struts! What a treat!
 
Fitted a replacement ABS ECU appears to have helped my ABS problems, need to get it on the diagnostic to clear out any remaining errors and see how the land lays. Thanks Martynv8... Will send you a PM shortly.

Fitted replacement locking wheel nuts after dear old dad managed to snap a pin out of my existing locking key and round of part of one of the wheel nuts. Parents eh!

Spent a few hours today stripping my engine down. Took me less than 20 minutes to get the manifold heat shields & manifolds off (I guess they've not had time to rust in place with the amount of time they've been off over the last few years).
 
4 x Cans of spray adhesive, (for new headlining), arrived today and hoping some fabric samples will arrive tomorrow!

Still have one minor leak in wheel well area and suspect this will be due to the well documented water ingress from the rear bumper/tow bar cross member area.

Still need to work out how to get wheel nut covers off, (without damaging them), so that I can see if I have any locking nuts to worry about, (I have no key)!

Will be looking to purchase a suitable electric polisher so that I can start work on the bodywork next month!
 
Spent today trying to work out why it's running lean. Especially on LPG! Having the LPG system checked for tuning on Monday, might do the plugs before then.

Anyone recommend a plug for the 4.2SC lump?

If you have locking wheel nuts you'll probably find that the covers for the lockers have a slight dish in the top. I have found that to be honest just putting the wheel brace onto the top of the nut cover actually works fine although you do risk scratching them if they are scruffy anyway you can wind the four normal ones of without removal. You'll find the dished ones on top of the lockers just twist of though if you wriggle them. You should have a little plastic tool thing in the boot with the spare wheel and jack etc its normally in a black plastic/leather wallet thing. Looks like this

Sounds like mine with the JE Engineering straight pipe i acquired....well while it was running anyway :( although i was going to take it off as wafting around in a 2 1/2 tonne Range Rover followed by the soundtrack of a TVR does start to get a little grating after a while. Especially when all you get from the back from our 2 year old is 'whats that noise daddy'.
 
I can manage it for a week or 2 then the standard box has to go back on but 3rd sport mode and foot to the floor away from the lights is much fun and the look on peoples faces is priceless

Many thanks for providing me with both the 'tips' and the link to the wheel nut cover 'removal tool' - a picture paints a thousand words!

Unfortunately all I got was the P38, (which was in an absolutely dreadful state), with numerous 'cosmetic' issues, (the interior was reminiscent of a pig sty - and may have been used as one, puncture holes in passenger footwell, rust patches in boot, HIVAC issues and intermittent random self locking), but fortunately few mechanical issues but no sunroof key, no locking wheel nut key, no EKA and Radio Code, (I found the original Radio Code foil label behind the dash when I stripped it), no spare keys and little else!

I did get a SyncMate and the owners manual, (and a few snippets of history), which is better than nothing - especially as I only purchased it as it was very cheap and I just wanted something that I could use to learn all about the P38 traits.

Compared to the state of it, (when I first acquired it), I have now rectified most faults, (at very little cost to myself), and it is now much better and may soon become almost 'acceptable' !
 
I drove it from Ullapool to Exeter towing a trailer. No problems whatsoever. 17 hours including sleeps. Left last night at 7pm after work and arrived before midday today.
 
Thought I heard an idler being very loose, like the bearings had collapsed...pants got a bit jittery

Turns out its the EAS compressor. It was replaced less than 6 months ago for a new unit under warranty. Wonder if I should claim this under the 1 year warranty too?
