Gave Buttercup an oil change today, what a drama I made of that, managed to tip half a litre of very black oil onto the hardstanding, slopped it out of the drain pan after draining the sump,:mad: tried cleaning it up but going to have to get the pressure washer out to it. Why oh why did the VM designers decide to have the oil filter fitted upside down so all the oil spills out of the filter as soon as you start unscrewing it? loads of rags underneath and a plastic bag underneath and I still managed to drop a load of oil all down the side of the engine:mad::mad: and of course even more onto my nice clean concrete.
I like to keep the concrete clean to show up any leaks, cos I don't like leaks, and generally neither Buttercup or Norman (the 90) suffer leaky willy syndrome.

Had the call from the garage, rear brakes all done ready to collect tomorrow. Discs / callipers / pads replaced. Handbrake adjusted.

They advised when on the lift they detected a leak on drivers front airbag, so just bought new airbags and fitting kits. They've been on the to-do list for a year, so expected cost. But fitting ourselves. I know what part of my week off, or my Jubilee weekend brings, weather permitting.

Totally understand. But “he” said replace sensor, if still bad then it’s the wiring;).

Shirley you would check the wiring to the “bad” sensor first before spending money:D.

Ah, get ya, didn't notice that bit. Fair point, well made.

Pull the injector out and take a look. Does look excessive as you say.

Few quid they not cheap even ragged, like dog or light guards. Very handy but if you put the rear seats down you have to open the boot and slide it out slightly to put them back up. Wouldn’t be without mine

Sunday I found my lower cooler hose leaking around the joint. I’ve tried sealing it with rtv around the joins not reinspected yet. There is a diy method in tech archive it’s old so pretty far down the list.

Yeah, saw that but it is for the auto and looks a bit fiddly. I might have a play but the car is in constant use at the moment.

I like the idea of putting a standard thread fitting on the end of the metal pipe so you can just attach a (standard) bit of new hose whenever you want.

Sawdust, wait, splash of petrol, match!

I'd bet you will need the oil cooler as well, the pipes are impossible to undo. You could just replace the rubber hoses which can be secured with Jubilee clips, 2 at each end.

Yes, I did wonder about that. There cannot be much pressure. Last time I tried to undo the rad end I sheared the bugger off and had to get a new rad. That must have been 10 years ago so probably welded again by now, although it is brass on the manual not ally so I have a chance.

I think maybe I will wait until the next oil change then have a play. I only changed the oil a few weeks ago and I bet half of it would drop out if I undo it.

The rad ones are for the gearbox cooler, the oil cooler is separate and tend to tear off the threads so pipes and cooler best option unless you can do without the car waiting for bits to arrive.Remember the oil cooler is bolted one end and the other has a top hat washer on the bolt to allow for expansion when it gets hot.;):D

Oh yeah. That's a point. Yes, it is the engine oil ones that are the issue so probably welded to the cooler as you say. I remember MrGorsky's was welded solid when we took that off.

Picked him up from the garage, drove home in wafty lofty comfort. Front airbags definitely in need of doing now - parked on the drive like a hotwheels car at the moment, ass up nose down.

Brakes are both softer biting and firmer pedal, lots the slight shudder that I thought was probably normal, lost the noise. should be bedding in smoothly with the driving we have to do here.

Is "face down, ass up, that's the way we like to *park*" too modern a reference for Landyzone? :D

Having cleaned the oil off (again) I am now wondering if the oil is coming down from the turbo area. Damned if I can see where it is coming from though!
