Been reading these forums for awhile now. So signed up. My son and I have a 03. L322 3.0 TD project. Turning into a nightmare.

So what did we do today. Finished fitting a refurbed Torque converter, as it had a gearbox problem.
All was well then 30 miles later all stop. Again. Before fitting said Torgue converter, ATF had been changed twice filter once. Did 300 miles. Great we thought.
How ever once it gets warmed up comes to a stop, but cooled down off we go again.. Very confusing..

Anyone had anything similar?

Overheating gearbox but not triggering dash warning? Blockage in gearbox cooler pipes or radiator I would guess then?
We flushed out the pipes and oil cooler. I bought a drill pump,fitted in my battery drill to fill up gearbox. Stuck tube on one of the oil cooler pipes till it came out clean.
Going to check condition of the ATF, if it's black after 35 miles. Sure sign of over heating?

What atf did you use, you can not use any old aft it has to be the correct one for that box
 
sounds like a full gearbox rebuild needed
The guy that supplied the Torgue converter, said when he strips down our old Torgue converter he will get in touch about what condition it was in.
Looking at prices of second hand gearboxes (no guarantee its any better than the one we have) it might be a spares or repair ad.
There's no way going down the recon road. one of them is worth more than the car!
 
Checked the compressor was outputting OK, got it all installed again, with some tap washers under the lower mounting washers as spacers / absorption to see how the noise is. All connected up, fired straight up happily, had to run for 5 minutes but then came up to access OK. Didn't test higher, will wait 'til actually driving. Nanocom cleared the compressor fault message and got it going fine. Quieter than it was, more of a bass throb like a big exhaust instead of a rough harsh noise. Still scope for improvement.
Got the 20" wheels photographed for sale - don't want to be dragging them with us when we move. Posting that in the sale bit later, then eBay next weekend.
Had the vibrating problem on mine it was the plastic housing vibrating on the wing so I used something similar to these.

These cars can cost lots to keep on the road, if you're not prepared to spend then best get rid of it now before you get in too deep.
