ideally something bigger than motorcycle-sized clutches are needed for a V8... :)

Depends on the motorcycle. Coil spring clutch on my old T3 is bigger than the one on wife's Ka, despite similar power. Ka clutch is lighter though. I've still never got round to engineering a hydraulic conversion on the bike. And with a P38 to play with I probably never will...
 
Got 2 shiny machined heads with new valves / springs / seals (guides were OK) back from the engineering shop. So now back towards reassembly once we have finished prepping the block surfaces. Hoping the dry weather holds to the weekend, and that the chiro induced aches of the day have eased by then.
Need to order some bits to get too much further than just heads on, but I think they might turn up faster than we will be ready for using them. Starting to reduce the piles of bits around the house would be good though.
Tomorrow evening's job will be to redo the rocker shaft that I realised too late I had just fully reassembled back to front. Damn BIL coming in and talking while I am juggling a frozen shaft and 150 degree pillars....
 
Dead battery tonight, very convenient!!!!

Well it was near dead after 4 days of sitting, the engine barely turned over.

So hooked my jump pack on it and off she went..

Did around 55mi round trip and came home, upon hooking the multimeter to her it seems she is running at 14.11 which is good even with the headlights on

However after turning her off it dropped from 14.11 straight to 12.6 volts, and it started to drop quick quite quickly..

I would assume there would of been some kind of surface charge on the battery after a run, which it didn't seem to show...

After leaving her for a 2 minutes she went to sleep so nothing is keeping her awake...

Any ideas before I go at her with a multimeter tomorra?! @Datatek

If it was flat, 55 mile trip is not likely to charge it up in my opinion.. put it on charge overnight.. then see what it's like in the morning
 
I have a shallow pit but having dropped the gearbox, I'm not sure how I would get it out from under the car. I'll have to bite the bullet and do one day.

Plantinum 649X for me. Fit and forget and not that much more expensive. Cannot remember where I got it now. HTS Spares possibly.​
 
Angle torque gauge is useless on a head bolt in situ!! FFS
Socket wobble gives about 30 degrees!! A normal torque wrench is much easier.. would have been finished an hour ago
 
When I was taking Otto's heads off, most of the bolts were T-bar and 3 feet of piping and needing my full weight / pull to shift. But there were a couple each side which seemed barely finger tight. Hoping the stud kit will be more consistent, especially with settling time between each stage of tightening.
