I like your optimistic view! Not much else left though :(
I was convinced I'd find the source with the dodgy looking lifter
Forgot the name but you know the additive that people on here recommend for the auto gear boxes, well the company make one for engines. Years back I was going to France and engine developed slight knock, well mate who worked in local auto traders recommended it. Put 1ltr bottle in with engine oil(was quite gloopy). Took me there and back and ran nice and quiet until I sold car a couple of years later.

Lucas heavy duty oil additive is the one

Did you disturb the oil pickup pipe? Sure @Saint.V8 had a similar problem and it was the pickup pipe O ring.
Yep...that was an embarrassing issue....couldn't keep oil pressure up, changed pump, front cover, releif valve spring...pick o ring twice....still nowt.

Sold it for parts to a couple of members on here...they replaced the o ring again and voila it worked...I must have been using a slightly under sized o ring (it was a LR part - just one from a selection I had in a box) and this was the issue...it looked identical, but obviously was not correct!

I did, put a new oring on :)
Collapsed cup in the rockers themselves are another thing to check that causes it to produce a lovely sound
If you find nowt wrong with the followers/rockers then you'll have to go deeper, piston slap, slipped liner or a worn small end..

The latter not really that common on the RV8

Once had a knocking but not exhaust manifold but inlet manifold
In 2 other cases on different engines one a 2'6 RoverSDI and the other a 300tdi were head gasket to outside air. Both engines ran OK but knock, knock on reving

Mine was shortly after rebuilding the top end incl cam & followers.
I've got SS tubular manifolds & their gasket faces were quite pitted.
I should have done a better job of refacing them but didn't want to take too much metal off & thought I'd done enough.
No 7 was the culprit.
Removed & refaced smooth & flat - on the basis if it didn't work they were for the bin!

We hope so....we moved from Surrey to Wiltshire as my work contract had moved and it kept getting extended. Unfortunatley the Army wanted their house back, so we have found a fantastic little farm house on a dairy farm in Dorset which is super awesome - it is a bit further to get to work, but we love it here, so hopefully we can settle in here for a go long time. Kids love the cows, I love the fact that we are the only two houses in our postcode and the wife loves the peace and quiet!

Hopefully now we have settled in over the last couple of months and work is getting more manageable now we have got a handle on the whole COVID thing (I work for Public Health England) we can get back to some more Landyzone-ing...

I trust y'all well too?

I work as a Design Engineer within their Estates and Engineering department....fall guys oh yes....these science guys and girls have worked their fecking tails off I can tell you, very proud of them and everyone one who supports them.

Gave it some beans yesterday, temp went down from 93c to 87!! It's my water pump generally not pumping fast enough?
Are there different size pulleys available? The one that's on is large enough it's difficult to get the belt on because it's so close to the crank pulley at the bottom

Is your viscous fan ok can they fail locked up? I have one in the garage that's done 4k miles so don't buy a new one if it's knackered.;):D

Had my newly aquired set of 5 Comet 18 inch alloy wheels/tyres back from the refurbisher's yesterday. Brand new now and super sparkly. New set of centre caps too fit also. I just need the actual car now to fit them to along with all my other genuine P38 external extra's. LOL.
Had another update from the dealer and things are nearly done now. They had a few set back problems which they have had to put right ( extra bonus to me ) a new windscreen ( Genuine item ) is being fitted too ( double bonus ) and after sorting out all the A/C system to 100% work he said the fault book came on again and they diagnosed dicky blend motors so they are being done too ( triple bonus to me ) so just the final full valet and machine polish and fresh M.O.T done and he should be ringing me to deliver finally. Its been nearly 3 month wait now but that has played in to my hands really so i am not bothered at all by the delay.
