You had me double guessing myself with this. I was sat in the garden with a nice bowl of pasta (beautifully prepared by the wife) and a frosty one thinking "am I on crack?" Good news is it isn't the bearings, they are play free and turn freely. Bad news is there is so much corrosion on the caliper and carrier I can only assume they've rusted in place. I'll tear them down this afternoon and inspect further. Heres to hoping it isn't a new caliper job.
Got new discs and pads anyway, because the discs are visually ****ed, and it isn't worth the time or money to send them to be refaced.
Yep never understood why people have ancient discs resurfaced, cost prohibitive especially when new rear discs are £20 each and the thinner they are the more likely they are to warp..

Calipers are cheap too, I bought a set for the back of mine from paddocks a few years ago £25 a piece IIRC..

Looks like he's in the dog house again.;):D:D, how's the dog by the way.

Since he paid to have Honey bought down he's in pretty good books for once!
Socks is feeling much better on his new miracle drugs and is as spoilt as ever

Out with the old..

One of the carrier bolts was being stubborn, nowt a clout with a heavy hammer couldn't fix ;)

Whilst the carrier was off I noticed one of the sliders wasn't quite as loose as the others..

A nice coat of grease and it slid right back in ;)

New disc and pads all done!! ;)

Not too much mess made. ;) :)

I immediately took her for a good drive and the brake pulsation and steering judder has completely gone, i'm well chuffed money well spent in this case! ;)
She's transformed! ;)

The old disc was also warped and in a right state.

:)

Oh and I did manage to find a nice crack in the disc, bloody cheapies.

Only really made sense when they are big ol' HD badgers that cost thousands a throw or if you do it yourself. Otherwise just get a new set. Not that mine had anything to reface anyway, looks like the caliper got stuck on a heap of surface rust on the carriers. All blasted off and good as new. Just wish I had some paint to give them a chance in the future. Although the right caliper looks like it has gone through a big heat cycle as I am sure it was gold new, not this resplendent black(blueish) it is now.

That looks nasty, my rear pads flew out just after I bought her, wrecked the calipers in the process ;)

Looks like the slider were a little bit sticky:D

I remember seeing that. I'd have been livid. Mostly because I really don't fancy bleeding a P38.

That was my initial thought, but when I split the caliper from the carrier the sliders moved freely. Just a **** tonne of rust had built up. I guess if I was going to be an adult about this I'd order some high temp paint and give them a going over...

Yep it was a pain initially, I did manage to gravity bleed the rear calipers so no bleeding procedure for me ;)

Yep me too.

However the P38's braking system is lightyears ahead of other 4x4's I've driven! ;)
It is very similar to the hydraulic system used on aircraft which just makes it overkill. I am on the hunt to see if the MoD system has any actuators that could fit the P38, at least then I could recharge it with nitrogen in future, rather than having to replace it.

Yep much easier to understand than the braking system on old Rolls Royces though ;)

The pressure accumulator loses pressure through the butyl diaphragm inside breaking down, a good test is if you get the accumulator off is to poke a ziptie inside if you can get in further than 1 inch then the diaphragm is shot. ;)

Fitted a new cable to the outside drivers door handle and reassembled everything, door opened from inside and outside so all tools back in the boot and lock the car.......bollocks.....drivers door won't lock.
Get tools out of boot again , door card off check everything and all looks ok so back together and it's working

The Duke's Defender 130 Gun Bus: This Defender Gun Bus, built from a Td5 130, was commissioned by the Duke of Edinburgh in 2005. After a 45-minute meeting at Sandringham with the Duke this design was created, Land Rover said. It is understood this will be the vehicle that carries his coffin
