ohms is the way, connect the multimeter leads across the 2 cores for the ABS sensor and spin the wheel. should fluctuate as the wheel spins.

ac volts might work depending on the multi meter.

good luck though, lots of interesting stuff to check and **** about with using a multimeter.
 
i am sure i read a while back that the wheel sensor is 1 ohm so anything above that is ok if it has a 10 ohm setting put it on that
 
Just never set the multimeter to read current (amps) and connect it across a voltage source such as the battery, or indeed the mains!! There will be a bang and brown stuff may appear....
