Noticed a few people are experiencing vibration at the moment albeit on different motors but a wee update on this incase it helps. So far I've replaced all radius arm bushes, shock absorber bushes at the front, front axle casing, wheel bearings all round, new front diff, fresh oil in swivels and diff, had props off and fully greased. Yet I'm still getting the vibration at 50 plus and at 60 it shudders through the steering, goes away for a second or two then comes back. Next step is tracking done and steering damper replaced

I've had the tracking done and it seems very slightly worse. If you know of my current woes with my transfer box do you think it could be related to that? I'm leaning more and more to think its the steering somewhere so could a fubared PAS box or UJs in the steering column give the following symptoms - General driving there is a slight vibration all round which I'm putting down to my duff transfer box. At 50 mph plus I start getting a violent shudder/vibration through the steering which travels from the wheels up to the steering wheels and happens every 2.5 seconds. Gets worse with road speed and is there regardless of clutch up or down or direction of travel.

What do you all reckon?

you destroy landies :p

could try sticking another set of wheels on just to rule them out

edit: just bothered to read the thread.. so forget that :p

if you come over, i have a set of 4 wheels you can put on to see if it goes away

is it as bad as a death wobble?

I really don't think it's the wheels as I've had these modulars on for thr best part of two years and they've been brilliant. I had some old steelys on when I was off roading though so it's definitely not the wheels buckled or anything

didn't you say you reused the tyres and don't bother getting them balanced? :D

Nope it's very good condition second hand tyres I have on. Had the steelys balanced to try and source the vibration, swapped them back to front too but made no difference. Tried with my modulars but made no difference

when it wobbles, does it go away when you turn the wheel a bit?

either way you can check for play easier with another person. one turns the wheel, the other goes around watching and prodding

Nope. As soon as I hit 50 it starts and gets worse. The vibration and shudder through the wheel is actually that bad that it kind of hurts my hand after a while.
I'm leaning more and more to thinking it's the steering box but I just don't know

well, like i say if you come over this way, we can have a look...if there's any time left!

Dave I noticed a pronounced vibration around the same speeds, however this I've noticed is worsened by my buggered UJ's on the steering shaft.

Have you checked your wheel hubs for slight cracks or warping..?!

nah, he just waits until they fall off 5 miles from his house

I have not, stupidly assumed that the hubs and swivels are fine but it's worth a shout. What's the best way to check?

Lol well keep me a hold of them and we'll see what's going on. I could even swap them over and take it out a drive just to rule them out
