Hi All

I have a Series 3 registered on 22/12/1980.

The Gov.uk site says "you do not need to get an MOT if the vehicle was built or first registered more than 40 years ago". So I don't need an official MOT (I will probably get one done for peace of mind)

So the MOT exemption date is a rolling date, However the Gov.uk site say this about tax "vehicles made before 1 January 1980 are exempt". So it looks like I will need to tax the landy

Can anyone confirm that the tax exemption is not a rolling date. I am hoping the Gov.uk site just hasn't been updated. ;)
Thanks

Have you registered it as a Historic Vehicle?

Both are rolling but only ticks over once per year (March?)
As Turbo says you need to change the tax class to historic

Some vehicles made before 1 January 1980 are tax exempt, which means that they still have to be taxed but u don't have to pay, you can still SORN the vehicle if you wish according to the DVLA, there’s a 40year rolling date now with that.

Vehicles first registered before 18 June 1979 no longer need an MOT, and also there’s a 40year rolling date with that.

I changed a1976 car I own to Historic two years ago, simples take the V112 and the filled in V5 plus a insurance cert, to the post office, two weeks later I received back a new V5.
So i’v renewed my tax twice now on line, again with out paying.

Mine's August 1980 and becomes tax exempt on the 1st April - same as yours.

https://www.gov.uk/historic-vehicles/vehicles-exempt-from-vehicle-tax then add a year because it's out of date.

1st April then going forward you can tax online as normal but the fee will be £0

Also just to add... just wait till you get the reminder to tax your vehicle from the DVLA, then u will see that the tax rate will show 0.00 :D

Don't assume its rolling, I think it gets changed in the budget each year in the fine print. Given what's going on with covid and de-carbonising all bets are off.

Pretty sure it got made rolling again in 2014/5 - but that's not to say that it couldn't change in future. OP's ok then as I know I'm ok for this year, and his is the same age.

You can get the complete details on tax my car website. I found this website when I had to tax my car online last year. Pretty impressive.
