Tesco delivered our food shopping yesterday and this included my first lot of SVO.
Only got 12 litres as wouldn't allow anymore than that (1 litre bottles @ £1 each). Poured it in and then topped up with 60 litres of Diesel down the local garage (£1.399  )
Seems to be running OK (98 reg 300 tdi). smells nice too.

I've just registered with Fuelly and now I have a full tank will start recording my MPG.

I've got a spare fuel filter onboard. Anything else I need to be keeping an eye on?

just remember your fuel filter will probably need changing after approx 1 tank /500 miles and slowing increase your % until your happy.i'm currently running a 80/20 mix and whilst its reasonably warm especially at night take advantage.

just thought i'd add an update, and i dont know wether any of you veggie users have noticed a big price increase in the veggie, i was looking at asda the other day, and the cheapest i saw was £3.40 for 3 litres, one was over £4.00, so i think we are slowly getting this perk taken away from us.

Tesco & Asda are both selling 1 litre bottles of veg oil (currently pure rapeseed il) for £1.
These are beside the 3 litre bottles which are £3.40

my small city center tesco peterborough 1x 5ltr bottel £4.80

handy they come 2 bottels in a cardboard box

i just got 50 ltrs before i went away they had only 2 pallets full and its usally gone in 3 days , city center takeaways buy it i think

ya have to be quick

You can get it from Makro for less than £1 a litre in 20 litre containers.

I also get it for £1.19 a litre in the local Lidl when I have to but tbh I am getting fed up with all the remarks from checkout people and/or wannabe comedians in supermarket car parks. You don't have to put up with that when going to the wholesalers.

I don't know who's the joke here. Me paying less than £1 a litre to fill up with fuel, or people who are willing to go out and pay £1.39 a litre? If I get any more remarks, I think I will start to use that line to wipe the smirk off their faces but until now I've been polite and have laughed along with it. But now it's getting old.

until 2/3 years back I was buying veg oil for 50p a litre which was great running the disco on that and the rrc on lpg at 45p a litre but as we all know with increased demand comes increased price so veg is now a quid or more and lpg is 75/80p.

The ****ers will get you one way or another, hence why I sold the rrc and have been running the disco on wvo for a couple of years. ;)

i get mine from local take aways, just make sure you filter it well, ive ran 2 discos 50 50 with diesel, no probs

Hows your cold starting ?

fine, as the weather gets colder I change the ratio to 10% petrol and up to 20% derv in the really cold times.

So even in the freezing temps we had last winter I was still running on 70% wvo with no probs.

Hi Folks!
A small price update, Bookers Cash & Carry knock out 20Ltrs veggie for £19-86 a box. The containers are well worth keeping!

If you can get any used oil, here is a very simple and cheap, no extra chemicals needed, to create fuel at circa 40P litre:
buy yourself a cheap chest freezer (secondhand is best)
Stick one or two cut off 20 Ltr containers in it, full of used filtered oil
Chill it down till the water and crud scum can be scraped out
Mix residue 60:40 with fresh veggie oil
Use with 30:70 mix of diesel to oil mix (thats 30% diesel)
In winter you might need, depending where you ae, to add a half cup of petrol per 5 lyrs to avoid waxing.

Small advice to folk buying bulk oil, do it in smaller lumps, say 3 or 4 boxes max at a time, also dont fill up in supermarket car parks - it can beg a question you might not want to answer :)

best of luck!
PS My last P38 reg was B10 FBF (Bio four by four) if you see it around, would be interested to know if it was still using oil.

What the lovely people at Agri fail to mention is that they charge small producers of used cooking oil for collections or don't collect at all because it's not worth their while. This leaves a lot of people who produce 20litres of waste oil a month with no option other than to dispose of it illegally or pay them. Most B&Bs and small hotels fall into this category. This a gap in the market which can be filled by home bio-diesel producers who have the time and energy to collect from small producers free of charge.

The main issue of oil thefts from larger producers of waste oil has nothing to do with home bio-diesel producers - its more often stolen by people who mix the used oil in with tarmac.

So then if they abolish the 2500l allowance it helps Agri develop a monopoly on oil collection, meaning that they make more and more money from small businesses who are already hard pressed in the recession. So guess what that will help - the environment?? Don't think so - they'll just tip it down the drain. Agri knows this but doesn't care as long as it helps their profit margins.

Great world we're making.........
