Hello,

Asking for your help a second time.

My RR makes a humming noise when running, usually around 2000 rpm, (but may happen at any range), mostly when using cruise control while going uphill.
The sound is similar of rolling on white rumble strips.
Sounds doesn't last long, 2 sec of it, then stop 1 sec, then 2sec... during 10sec top.
It disappear while accelerating.

No loose panels under the car from my last inspection.
Could it be the front diff? a cardan?

My local workshop could'nt help me on this one.

If your car is an L322 with the M57 diesel, then odds on it's the gearbox.

No noticeable vibrations in the wheel.

i fear servicing the gearbox, some recommend to let it untouched as putting new oil might create more trouble than anything else.

OK, different gearbox, they should be serviced, if you don't it will fail.
 
It sounds like the typical torque converter rumble.....

I would do a search for the ZF5HP and its issues regards Torque Converter wear and the rummble strip type noises, vibrations it develops.

@Bemble (also known on other forums as RRPhil) has documented this extensively and is well worth the read.
 
As above, slow acceleration up a slight incline will trigger the torque converter noise, if it stops at 56 mph ish then it is quite likely that as that is when the lock up clutch is fully locked and the constant slip feature of the ZF5HP24 stops.
Can be caused by low transmission fluid if you are lucky and sometimes a change of fluid for the correct spec mobil / esso Esso LT71141 and a new filter might help.

There are other reasons like driveshaft or mud build up on driveshafts, injector, engine mounts etc but my money would be on TC.

This will get you started but anything you can find by Bemble or RRPhil will be time very well spent .

I agree with the others - the symptoms you've described do sound a lot like those you'd expect from a worn torque converter lock-up clutch friction plate. Worth staring closely at the rev counter needle during the vibration to see if the engine speed is wavering a couple of hundred rpm in sympathy with the noise.
