Sorry I've not been about for a bit, the old girl has been running fine although she still taps and the cam timing is still too far advanced on the left bank inlet but mpg isn't bad (about 11 to 12 round town) so she can't be too bad.
Alternator rear bearing seized last week after only 18 months so I was a bit ****ed off about having to replace that so soon but overall (touch wood) it's been, errrrrrrrrr, dare I say, reliable lol

good to see you about mate and still tapping !!
i have read dozens of M62 threads and they all seem to tap at some point, I think mine is probably followers as i have given it a good thrashing and it goes quiet for a while but then taps again.
it has been driving really well apart from that :)

Funny you should say that, i have just put in Mobil 1 0w-40 as i have had tapping and some days i would drive it and it feels like it is a wild stallion, (all be it one born in 2004) and then the next day it feels like i am towing a skip full of concrete and and the fuel drops to 15 mpg from around 18.
I flushed my engine last time and put in some cheap Mannol 0w-30 as i wanted to remove the remaining flushing oil without using up decent oil and then yesterday i put in a new filter and the Mobil 1 and so far it sounds a lot better and driving the best it has in a long time.

i have had a few issues with the battery going flat from not being used for around 3 or 4 weeks and had a few multiple misfire codes and other randoms but they have all cleared.
When it was running rough it would take a load of throttle to go and the engine breaking was harsh and as soon as i let off the throttle i could feel it really slowing down.

it may also be a sticking caliper, my alternator or some other ancillary is seizing, my right CAT has a leak and so could be blocked but so far the only thing i have done is put in the Mobil 1 and it was a real pleasure to drive today :)

Not my thread i know but felt i needed to share that as hammy has fooked orf :(
