If we have got some self righteous prick on here ( not my words btw) ...then i'd like to be the self appointed nice person & voice of reason . I had to read this thread to see about the "flaming" that had occured and had driven poor old quackers off in a flurry of his tail feathers...... And actually i found , unbelievably , given the subject matter , helpful answers, advice on how to search and a couple of slightly sarci posts. Not exactly what i call hounding or flaming...more a case of someone with a hair fine trigger for managing his emotions.

I do accept it does happen at times on other threads...but generally for every post having a go there are two answing the question or explaining why theyre getting a pounding

You're maybe right on this particular occasion, I've not read back through the thread. My posts on here have maybe come more from a historic viewpoint as I already have a view of this forum as generally an unfriendly place for the newcomer as I've seen this situation on too many occasions. That can't be a good thing?

Thanks for at least a considered response! This self-rightuous prick appreciates that much at least.

i cant see why anyone should get upset about what questions asked , i must have answered as many questions as most ,but if it doesnt interest me or i cant be bothered as its repetitive or whatever i just skip it never occurs to go and give whoever **** for asking ,i cant believe someones really offened or is put out in any way ,as your not forced to reply or even read it, if it does then you need to assess your own priorities ,admittedly this particular thread isnt particulary abusive and so not a good example of what often happens , and abusive or ignorant people should be given no mercy ,but too often its uncalled for ,whats the point in having an lz stand at shows to recruite new members ,there already is plenty if they can get through the first post or two

Gosh, ive emptied my popcorn!!! sort of knew where this would go!!! lol
good read, when i 1st posted i got the same (series71) but i gave it back and didn't take it to heart, this site has helped me out loads of times, often i ask before i do anything as to getting job done in 1 go,
so if you cannot take it, it's a poor do,
yeh we all give a bit, cos lifes a bit of fun aswell,
but to sum it up,

That's entirely my point! A select few ruin it for new folk unneccessarily. This thread happens all too often. New guy posts same old question, unbeknown to him, gets a bit of flack and decides this forum is full of dicks and is never seen again. It's such a great resource that gets ruined for little reason.

if you are a little sensitive yes! but really they are all pussy cats really. lol

my misses thinks i am sad!! i sit here and read theses threads as fook all on TV,
some are really good and you learn a lot, then some like this can be quite entertaining, then i start to laugh, then she gives me a funny look!!
ive done some good projects over the years, but as age and time take over i don't mess around with big boys toys the same, i would like a range rover sport, but she wouldn't drive it or even want to ride in it, so a disco 2 i have, vw golf she has,
i try to do a much as poss in keeping it running myslf as enjoy it, but long are the days of gas welding etc, time!!!
so mountain biking has got the hold of me for the last 3 years or so, keeps me fit at an age of 46, (the bike nearly cost more than the disco!), i maintain them 2 as my sons do it as well, they don't show any signs of messing with cars like we did as teens,
so i suppose even they would ask aquestion like this, but i would give em the same answers, look on google 1st
the internet is a wealth of knowlage, but on here you can get into a conversation as well, i know some on here, but wouldn't know what they look like(thank god), but they really help you out!! A GOOD FORUM

Thing is .... there are some folk who like Morcombe & Wise, some like Russell Brand and some like Chubby Brown. LZ is not your Morcombe & Wise site, never has been and to my mind is all the greater for not being so .

If you find that the banter and the direct speak is not for your taste then perhaps this isn't the site for you. I'm not talking about the out and out attacks that can take place ( which make me decidely uncomfortable ) but Quackers threw his toys out the pram over nothing at all. I have to say , just from my own point of view.... the ability to interact on here is as much a part of it as offering technical advice ..... and just a quick scout around the site before posting would give you a flavour as to how it operates... plus , lets be honest....loads of folk have heard about LZ and it's "attitude".... as was told to us at the B&W show last year. My take on that was a little like Marx- I wouldn't want to belong to a club they belonged in tbh :p

Fair enough then if that's the viewpoint of the admin of the site. I don't agree with that viewpoint but accept it.

For what it's worth, the reputation on here doesn't particularly bother me personally, I just find it a shame for those that get offended by the abrupt nature that their questions are often met by.

I'm a fabricator welder of 18 yrs experience so nobody has to explain to me a robust atmosphere of banter but, just because I and others enjoy ripping the **** out of folk doesn't necessarily mean that everyone else should conform. Isn't that what you're saying with your Morecambe & Wise analogy? I'm all for it, but to jump in when folk don't know the feel of the forum which results in a bad reputation that drives people away seems harsh.

I'm not telling you how to moderate the site by the way, just offering up my opinion, which has been formed over sadly too infrequent as I'd like visits over the past two or three years. Maybe I'm just unlucky and stumble upon a disproportionate number of threads that contain over the top ****e to people with well-meaning intentions, and consequently gain a false idea of this forum. But, given that you allude to this site already being recognised as one with an unfriendly reputation, perhaps not.

The bottom line is, as a landy enthusiast that has the means to set to work but not the knowledge, I find it a crying shame when folk like myself are denied the opportunity to learn and gain advice when they're allowed to be run down for merely asking questions.

But, as so eloquently previously stated, if folk don't like it, nobody forces them here so they are free to #### off. I've made my point, albeit in perhaps too tame a thread for my point to be proven as strongly as I'd like, so I'll crawl back under my self appointed righteous rock for another few months!

New guy posts same old question, unbeknown to him, gets a bit of flack and decides this forum is full of dicks and is never seen again.

But if "New Guy" bothered to spend 10 mins looking round before joining, or 2 mins searching before asking, the vast majority of "These threads" would probably never happen.

They usually go something along the lines of............................................................

O.P. - Hi, I'm new, I've got loads of problems.

Native - Welcome to the mad house, have a search/put your questions in the correct section pal.

O.P. - Why the fook should I, if you are not willing to help me, get the fook off my thread:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: Do you know I'm 6'10" and Ex-S.A.S. and I want to meet you in a pub carpark:eek:

Native - :dnfnoob::dnfnoob::dnfnoob: (Tears noob to bits).

O .P. - Right you set of bullies, I've reported you to the Police/Samaritans/My Aunt Fanny/The MODS, and am going to sulk now, because nobody cares:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

How many threads has anyone who's been here a while seen that pan out like that:rolleyes::rolleyes:

There is no other resource which comes close to this place, I think I asked a question on day, and had the help/information/answer back quicker than it took me to make a brew:eek::eek:.

The VAST majority of Noobs receive all the help the ask for, it is the minority of noobs who turn up with a huge attitude that cause the problems:crazy::crazy::crazy:

I think it's useful to be reminded that newbie baiting is not an LZ sport and that at times it should be reined in a bit - equally , it's unfortunate that this shows a newb spitting his dummy unjustifiably IMO ... as it kind of doesn't serve to make the point very well.

I think your rock sounds a nice place to crawl under tbh.... I'm happy to share a small dark space with nice people :)

This was simply a noob spitting his dummy. If he had done a simple google search and found some tyres he liked the look of and then searched them he would of had his answer, even if he had come back with a few types ajd asked what people rate more he would of got more help than just having a winge and saying hes "searched and found nothing". Theres no flaming or bullying in this thread,it would of probly ended on page 2 if bebe hadn't made it sound worse than it is.

I haven't made it sound worse than it is, well, maybe this particular thread but I'm talking more about the general atmosphere of the board, as I've stated a couple of times I think. I have conceded that this thread certainly isn't one of the worst but the guy, whilst I appreciate he came across a little short, merely asked a question and got branded a troll, followed by some grief for being stroppy, which ultimately led him to want to leave the forum. I don't think it's fair to state that he came on and spat his dummy. Who can blame him? I think new folk get a raw deal on here. Just because it could have ended at page two doesn't make it right that yet another person felt a bit ****ed off by some responses.

Anyway, it's been done to death now and nobody seems to give a #### beyond simple one line sarcasm but thanks to the admin team for taking time to at least respond. I'll save reasoned debate for elsewhere and maybe join in the general mood on here by hammering some of you halfwits that have little idea how to fabricate or weld so that I can feel whatever it is that some of you feel when you feel the need to go on the offensive for no reason!! Or maybe not eh?

Anyway, while I'm here, what's a fairly good aggressive all terrain tyre? I need some new tyres but don't think I want to go all out MT's but want something that'll see me through some half-decent laning.:D
