Right guys here's the most recent events :)
Well ill start with the bad news :/ my head rebuild doesn't seem to have solved the engine problems after all :/ still running like a bag of nails, no1 compression is Half that of the other 3 so has to be piston rings which means engine swap :/ ooh well it's not actually a hard job apart from doing the timing but should be able to bash it out in a good day. Anyway lets get onto better news :)

Started with a little panel straightening where I was hit on the rear tub

Not perfect but not bad :)

And my winch arrived the other day and so we placed it on the front to see how she fits :D

Mmm meaty :) not horrendously heavy actually and sits right back against the rad do the approach angle is as good as standard although slightly worse than my costom made bumper.

Now onto tonight's activities :)
First chopped off the old crossmember using the plasma cutter as it gets in tighter spaces easier :)

As you can see its not what you could call straight lol :)

While I had good access to the inside of the chassis I thought it would be a good idea to give it a wash out and wax oil, I would find out later that this isn't a brilliant idea

As its abit cold I had to warm the wax up first to get it to spray :D

So on with the new crossmember I first started by welding on the interior plates of the mounts
9020FD56-7CEF-43FA-A56F-37F31B201944-1425-000001584C4DABE6.jpg

And then tacked on the surrounding plates :)
810C7330-1823-4407-8181-E61CF2423202-1425-00000158260830B2.jpg

I took one or two off when fitting to replace them or to get to a plate better but worked quite well :)
Of course it's really important that what your welding to is clean and seeing as my chassis had a lot of wax oil on from previous wax oiling took abit of grongong off

It's currently just tacked on, I'm gonna remove the tub to weld it properly but I wanted the tub on to place the bolt holes :)

Anyway I know it's a long one but have been busy lately and haven't managed to update much plus we always get distracted. . .

Haha :)

Send us one o' them donuts!

Those rear crossmembers should be a legal requirement, no rot and look much better! :)

A bit more progress tonight, now that the crossmember was tacked on I went about removing the tub wo weld it all together properly as it means we can get better welds and it can be painted more easily :) so here she is all fitted after removing the tub :)

Here's how we fitted the plates and got them flush :)

Next job paint and wax oil :)

Awesome job pal, real nice to see one getting fully stripped :)

What happened with that heater box in the end??

Ultra bastard :(

Urm, obviously it was fine when I removed it!

If you can't sort it, bring it to January laning and I'll give you the money back for it.

That way I can have the pleasure of driving over it myself.

Haha can do :) I've got several I feel the same about :( ill just lump for a new one to be sure :(

Time for an update :)
So the rear crossmember is now finished all welded up and ground up even with some paint on ;)

And I've now moved on to the rest of the problems :) firstly with the engine, as the piston rings are gone I'm swapping to my spare engine so the old engine has come out :)
46F8C977-5E39-4D41-BF48-098C308A5A33-931-0000008B94F3E99A.jpg

Removed all attaching parts

Bellhousing bolts out
F933964C-9F59-41BD-97F9-7B9F916D9842-931-0000008B6D36AB85.jpg

And whipped her out :)

Easy when you've got a forklift ;)
E7B1C2B0-EC8A-480E-95B4-58444DA78860-931-0000008B891A76AF.jpg

And seeing as the bulkhead u rusty and I need to replace the outriggers I took the whole lot off
4FE1A7F4-EA8D-4F7B-95FC-BD6DFBB1BA5C-931-0000008B237CCA9F.jpg

This gives me an opportunity to paint and protect the chassis properly and find all weak points :)

And here's today's shopping spree  mainly repair stuff but also dislocation cones, sumo bars and some other little things :)

Tomorrow's job engine rebuild swap over ancillaries ect and tidy up the bulkhead :)

Noticed the clutch fork .. dunno if the Defender has the same issues as the Disco, but while the engine's off, it might be worth welding a plate over the back of the clutch fork ., re-inforcing the pressure bulge bit .. make it into a HD clutch fork! It might save you possibly having to do it later ...

Already done ;)

Hash unlucky ;)

It's all for the business during the day but its free evenings and weekends for me to get on with stuff :) makes work so much easier :) but also means you put stupid short deadlines on yourself

Right today was spent welding up several problems with the chassis :) seeing as its so far stripped down I'm going the whole hog and getting it shot blasted and fully painted, the price I was quoted made it a no brainier :) so firstly we attacked the outriggers. The drivers side was knack weed but the passenger side just needed patching.

Passenger side

Rot cut out
E4D557E0-BBDF-4035-9F63-DC63FC67CF04-2168-000001F1285A19A4.jpg

Plates made up and welded on :)
832397FD-1938-4296-9ED1-4A99B0CBD821-2168-000001F0DA65736C.jpg

The drivers side was abit more worse for wear
B440A139-06D2-4472-A4F8-6FEC31B1F2D7-2168-000001F133C0A308.jpg

So it was cut off completely there were also holes on the chassis so this got cut out an patched

And then new put on :)
BC826125-3F9F-418C-83D2-0235CEF16AAA-2168-000001F174CBD15D.jpg

The front drivers side chassis leg wasn't to healthy either

And as all the weight I the winch pulls through these points they have to be good so this too was chopped out and replaced

You did it the hard way, you bolt and clamp it all up working underneath, and the small plates go on the outside not the inside;)
