200tdi,

Nice workshop Very jelious!!!

I just got in meself from laying out todays CCV mucho fun my 90 was ok for a marshalls motor. To top it off the winning CCV motor was a nice little 80 inch with the same axle spring engine setup as mine will have. It beat ascroft'd up 3.9 trial spec motors for a 1st 2nd place double drive. Very happy indeed.

Sand lots of loose hillclimbs V8 req

Good work with the pics I'm keeping an eye on it.

Always nice to know your set up is going to work :)

Right, as requested here are some pictures of the old head gasket

This is it still attached, there was oil between the cylinder an the pressure side, but that was cleaned up before the pic.

This is the bottom side of the gasket and as you can see little damage

And no real damage to the head either

So I just went ahead, changed the head to my spare one and put the new headgasket on an this was the result

The colour of the oil that came out, this is only after a few thousand miles and so shows abit of a problem lol :)

Just debating whether to go back in and begin the rear crossmember swap or not think ill at least chop it off anyway :)

In the workshop we have 2 ramps 1 of which is MOT
A large lathe, milling machine, plasma cutter, 400amp welder band saw, punching/benching machine, shot blaster. Pretty much everything I need minus a mandrel bender. Which is well nice :)

Oil wise we alwats run turbo diesel oil and slick 50 in all our motors never had a problem in fact comp safari racing my bro seized an engine up solid changed down to 1st low and killed the car kinda a all or bust moment. The car sat next to the track. left alone. A few hours later it fired up and was driven onto the trailer. the engine ran but it was fooked but the abuse it took total failure was expected. I run v8's and tdi's on just minimum EU spec TD oil and slick 50. Plus molyslip in transfer box and axles and not had any issues there but I'm not an aggressive driver.

some people say snake oil which I can't argue with all I know is never have the problems others seem to have and it works so why change.

oil feed for head is front rhs ,but you cant see if gasket was leaking there from pics ,if fire ring was bright all the way round both sides most likely not and it would be only staining youd be looking for

It comes with one anyway ;) with a mount for a land anchor and recovery eyes, galvanised too ;) not quite the steal you got one for but still not too expensive and it's being dropped off for no extra cost so extra win ;)
happy days..from my experience the 8274 does need feeding well with electrickery

It comes with Solonoid switch everything to get it going which is good and I've seen a vid of it working

you bought the one off of ebay? was on a blue 90?

Looked quite good that one. :)

My quest starts in january. :D

Ow so come on then what exactly are you building?? A trials motor to alrc regs or to other regs or winch comp motor??

Bolting 100 kgs of weight to the front end isn't going to help you trailing.

Your gonna have a dilemma real soon which way to go and I don't envy you at all!!

Been there trashed my 90 several times rebuilt it several times and eventually I ended up with a second motor because 1 just simply can't be competitive at both without some serious work/cash and time.

Be wary many have been down this route and many will follow. You see frequently people buy destroy then sell their motors really frequently usually spending half their salary each
Month repairing maintaining them and
never really ever compete in any comps more that a couple of times give up wait a few months and start over again never really getting anywhere. Almost every club group has them.

Good luck!! As I say I don't envy your position!!

Keep us informed I'm loving your posts!!!!
