Ok I've gone slightly overkill on the rear stay mounts haha

What's are the regulations for welding to a rollcage, what extra can be welded on, winch hoops, rad mounts light bars ect ?

technically nothing they were even moaning about tags for lights. Although many people just do it. Personally I wouldn't it started getting silly with some people mounting spare wheels one on each rear stay aswell as high lifts etc. Their argument is in a high speed crash the weight and likley of it buckling the stays is greatly increased. What you mounting??

That's what I thought but you look at the apparently reputable trucks gigglepin ect and they've got light bars and winch hooks ect welded to the rollcage..

I was just thinking winch hooks to the front hoop and one on the rear somewhere only to hold the hooks for the winch bitch, and possibly some tags to hold the rear rad. I can fab ways without welding for the lights on the front hoop and rear rad mounts but its harder for the winch hoops

exhaust clamps are your friend, alas horrible but they work. The regs for many winch events are usually " vehicle must be fitted with roll over protection, there is no specification for this, however the msa have some drawings and is reccommended as a good starting point".

I'm sure this will change 1 accident and all motors will need to regs. Lots of the motors at the show had non compliant msa cages or ones that have been damaged one with a crushed main hoop but has been competing for 2 years like that.

Yeah that crossed my mind that winch challenges don't need msa spec as you see with some of the diabolical cages about. I was looking at exhaust clamps and runner clamps which will work I but it would be nice if there was a neater more secure solution. Ill get designing

what are you mounting?? spare?? I saw a nice one which was a bent piece of pipe which mounted to chassis but the tube had a 1 inch pin securing it upright in a socket I think it was scaff socket plate and they drilled the holes out to fit a pin. pull the pin and the whole lot lifted out and a rubber gromet fitted over the hole in the tub.

I really think its doen to the scruteneer. most know whats good and whats not. Although if you get an arsey one in a different area a tag could render your cage as scrap. I've had it where events haved been rammed and the scruteneers are looking to ban you or put you off. I suspect that many of the guys have had tage on the cages for ages and get some kind of grandfarther rights whereas a new build "should" not have any.

I wouldn't risk it myself.

Right going out to work on the trialer, had a knackared stub and hub full of rusty mess I fitted a new stub axle from my s/h shelf and fitted all 10 inch back plates and new brakes. Then found a hub ready built up with new bearings and seals ready to go on!

Only after fitting it I remembered why I took it off my old salisbury. Damn wheel studs are the older smaller type!! so its off again and anoter hub refurbed to go on!!
