Im looking to buy a cheapy lift kit for my 300tdi to get a bit more under arch clearance for my wheels/tyres but on a budget like most.

Already searched and read up on the usual questions/horror stories of it all but to be honest looks like the luck of the draw with cheap kits.. some end up breaking within 5 minutes some within 5 years.

The main question is does anyone use the britpart supergaz 40mm kit on their 300 for towing/motorway use? This being the one -
Landrover Discovery 89-98 40mm Suspension Lift Kit With Shocks D Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.

Only ask as i use the landy for towing cars on a car trailer sometimes and was wondering if they will be heavy duty enough for the job?

I know you can get blue springs with pro comp dampers but aswell as being 50 quid more, the pro comp shocks dont seem to be rated very well atall...

Anyone who has actually used this kit on their 300 for towing/load carrying your input would be appreciated :)

Can't help with that other than to say if it's got brit part wtitten on it ide stay well clear.

i used the yellow dampers albeit standard height for road use, never had a problem with them unlike the terrafirma lift kit i have now which has just had all 4 shocks changed under warranty after 8 months use

Interesting!!......8mths  what went wrong with them ?

front 2 were leaking the mot tester picked them up, and a week after one of the back ones snapped at the pin, after 2/3 weeks of argueing they replaced all 4 under warranty, the front 2 when removed actually fell apart, not very good in my opinion

am in Basingstoke Waiting on me train leaves 10.43. get to Donny 3.00pm

If using a 2 or 3 axle trailer make sure your towing hitch is set at the correct height. An adjustable one may be a good idea. You don`t want the trailer leading axle dangling in the air!

i know about the trailer etc have always run an adjustable hitch for years anyway :)

thanks johnlad did you do much towing with the yellow dampers/springs? might just bite the bullet and go for them, if they are **** them throw them on the bay.

...just to say i had pro-comp fitted on 300tdi i had many years ago and they were fine...

Nick.

im sure there are just some dodgy ones about and some good batches.

thanks for your input mate.

more people must use their lifted 300s for towing surely?

towed this ok, albeit not reet fast.
only dodgy load was this,
weight was a bit too far forward, sat the arse end down a bit,
caused it to be a bit twitchy.

tbh i dont know, it was on the disco when we got it.
was dubious at first, with non standard parts and lack of anti roll bars, but we (well her indoors) bought it as a road motor/play thing. i just seem to use it all the time, and mend it when i break it.
coming up to two years of ownership now and the second uj rattle is making its self known. dont know if its cos of the more acute angle of operation or the amount of water we play in, tho they are greased up afterwards.
like the truck? shoulda seem the digger climbing on.....
(might be able to see the springs, there blue uns if that makes a difference......)

looks like a laugh getting that digger on it has to be said.

thanks for the pics mate landy looks spot on aswell. lift kit ordered and if it tows like a bouncy castle then il just rip it back off again tbh.

as for UJs... looks like its a can of worms with that one but if i have to change a UJ every now and again its not the end of the world :)
